Then clearly, to Tartarus they go.

what if your loved ones wave their hands and begging you to save them. Would you turn away from them and save the 1 billion strangers? Letting your loved ones die and saving strangers instead is very cruel. I would never do this to my loved ones. Loved ones deserve better than that.

If the X have no clue that you are responsible for their next breath, then clearly, their ignorance condemns them to Tartarus for all eternity.

However, if the X know that you are their lord and savior, you can easily turn the situation to your advantage. Clearly, there exists some X where the marginal benefit from X people is greater than the singular benefit from your loved one. Harem, anyone?
I think it's better to assume the X number of people have no clue of what is going on while your loved ones know the situation. What ever you do, no one know excepts your loved ones.

For me, The X doesn't exist because no matter how large it is, my loved ones come first. Imagine if you are in trouble, who would help you out? Your loved ones or the billion strangers?

Wow, look like only Ken, Tom, and Dictionary are the only people who would sacrifice their loved ones for the strangers.

    This is very tricky.

Save the loved one, and suffer from spiritual health damage.

Save the X number of people, and the person's emotional health will be damaged.

    Either way, its no good.

Why would I suffer for doing the right thing??? What do I owe these strangers? Nothing. I didn't do anything to hurt them, why should I feel guilty of anything?

I am not that stupid. Why would I save those strangers over my loved ones?

My solution is save my loved ones first then try to save those strangers later if I can.

i don't give a rat's @ss about strange people. plus, the death of many millions of them will be good for the earth and humanity in the long term as there'll be more living space and less natural resource consumption.

The average person will throw morals out of the window for his or her family. I'm average.

I would feel bad either way I choose, but it would hurt worse without my loved one. So, I would save my loved one over X. Sorry X.

This is not a good question, who would sacrifice his/her loved ones for strangers? Nobody.

It would be more appropriate if you asked "save yourself or x number of strangers?".

To answer your question, I would choose my loved ones and kill myself after as my apology to those strangers. Life is precious and I could never live with myself if I stain the blood of an innocent.

Funny how you would opt to suicide but then in your next sentence say that life is precious.

    The answer is super easy!!!
Of course myself. I am the the only one I have. Why would I choose those hundred of million (or a billion) of those strangers over me?

Why would you have to kill yourself? I think you are confused. We are not talking about you kill those innocent literally. We are talking about choosing your loved ones and yourself over the strangers. I wouldn't lose any sleep for saving myself and loved ones over those strangers. No law in the world can go after me for doing it.

    Let say X = 1 billion people.
So you would let your children (if you have any), parents who raised you and always love you with all their hearts, sibblings who grew up with you and ect.. die. You would rather save those strangers who don't give a shit about you whatsoever. It's extremely unlucky to be your loved ones because to you they are worth less than those strangers.

You see, TC, a good samaritan and hardheartedness may not co-exist in here.

In a nutshell, the significance of being a good samaritan is beyond your wisdom. Your jaws might just hit the ground when you learn that how her family feel blessed to be her love ones knowing her nobility.

Saving the strangers while letting loved ones die is samaritan while saving the loved ones is hardheartedness? If so, I rather be the hardheartedness than an ingrate or unfilial son. Filial Piety is very very important to me.

Filial piety is wonderful, but even that has to take a back seat to basic human decency, and there's nothing decent at all about complicity in genocide.
