Default Wei Xiaobao . . . do you like him?

All of Jin Yong's heroes are heroic, courageous, chivalrous, etc. All except for little Xiaobao. Incidentally, he happens to be my favorite protagonist of them all. I like him more than Xiao Feng,
    more than Duan Yu,
    more than Xu Zhu,
    more than Guo Jing,
    more than Yang Guo,
    more than Zhang Wuji,
    more than Linghu Chong,
    more than Di Yun,
    more than everyone basically.

In fact, I like the story of DOMD more than all of Jin Yong's other stories. I watched Tony Leung's DOMD twice, Dicky Cheung's at least thrice, and I'm currently watching the new Huang Xiao Ming version. I certainly can't do this with any other of Jin Yong's stories. I know the story in and out already but the plot doesn't seem to get old. Why?

I came to a conclusion that it's because of Wei Xiaobao's character. It seems that I like his selfish, perverted nature. He doesn't resort to kung fu to resolve his problems. He uses his wits. He also seems to have a type of charisma that other protagonists doesn't have.

So what do you think of WXB? Likey or no likey?

Wei Xiao Bo is just lucky bastard. I never really liked his ugly, scum of the earth character. He can rot in hell for all I care.

With that said, I still find DOMD entertaining ( so TC is once again the lone person who thinks it is the worst novel), but I would never see WXB as a man.

I can understand it if you said Wei Xiaobao is the worst protagonist, but saying DOMD is the worst wuxia story ever is pushing it, don't you think?

Some people consider DOMD Jin Yong's masterpiece because it's so different from anything else before it.

This must be another dream from Trien Chieu's la-la land.

In China, Wei Xiaobao is INSANELY popular among both guys AND girls.

DOMD 1984 is also one of the most popular Jin Yong adaptions.

Whether DOMD as a good as a story and whether WXB is a likable character are two different things .

I grew up watching and re-watching DOMD ’84 with Tony and Andy. Best version, IMO . I'd rank it behind the Condor Trilogy.

Wei Xiaobao has his flaws, but he also does have some admirable qualities. He is certainly not a good role model or protagonist that I respect, but he is a hoot to watch. Vastly entertaining story and one of Jing Yong's best work. To make a lucky, smooth talking, perverted, scoundrel entertaining and likable proves that JY is an impressive storyteller.
