Greats and honorary Greats

At the end of ROCH, the new five Greats were decided, Huang Yaoshi, Yang Guo, Yideng, Guo Jing and Zhou Botong.

I think on spcnet, for discussions' sake, we consider the honorary Greats, Yideng, Huang Yaoshi and Zhou Botong as equals to GJ/YG while in reality, they wouldn't be a match for.

It stuck me that Ci En managed to fight with GWM for a day and a night hence the 3 Old Greats fighting GWM was not as impressive as I first thought it was. Age is an issue.

So by the end of ROCH, there should only be TWO Greats,

but because we give the three old men some recognition of their former glory, they were still included. Granted, they aren't far behind GJ/YG.

Anyone agree with me on this? That honorary membership was given. Or do you think they were actually on par with GJ/YG.

I'd say they were all pretty much on par........ZBT especially.

My suggestion is that in an actual battle, the 3 Old Greats would not be able to beat YG/GJ.

Actually he did. He reused the ones that he had already showed ZBT. Plus using full defense works well when you're very close to your opponent and have better stamina.

Indeed but that was made by HYS, referring to himself and Yideng.

Is that a revision made in the third edition?
Because I quote I have is
"各人听了，都是一怔，说到武功之强，黄药师、一灯等都自知尚逊周伯通三分，所以一直不提他的名字，只是和他开开玩笑，想逗得他发起急来，引为一乐 ." (2nd ed.)

The addition of the word "等" would greatly change the interpretation of the sentence since it must include other people aside from only HYS & 1Deng.

Though it could just be a typo on my part since I use an electronic source and they can get a little faulty.

Even 'IF' the 3 Original Greats were no match for Guo Jing or Yang Guo, who in all of Jiang Hu was a match for the Original 3 Greats? I think they still deserved their place in the ranking.
