Question 1980s TVB series .. why?

I am not sure about ATV, but I've been watching some old TVB series from the 80s and 90s, and this is a lot truer of the 80's series, but why did they always have to end series by having a villain become super powerful, killing everyone but the main hero? I really can't think of an 80s series that doesn't end like this. It doesn't matter if it's a book adaptation, or they just made up the story, it could be a pretty good story, but it always ends up with some guy who gets some crazy power up, kills everyone, and almost defeats our hero except for that last second!

Bonus points if hypnotism is involved and all the hero's loved ones are in his control; this despite nary a hint of supernatural hypnotism powers being used anywhere else in the series.

Can anyone tell me the point of doing this? I can understand it happening a few time, but really, I can think of only a few ancient series where this doesn't happen(
The only exceptions I guess are the condor trilogies I think.)... Was there a really popular show where this happen to start this trend?

Yeah it's pretty much the video game mentality. There's a super powerful final boss and the main hero has to step up to this nigh-invincible villain.

It also happened in Luk Siu Fung III and DGSD '81.

TVB was founded by the Shaw Brothers. This is an old trope that the Shaw Brothers used in their martial arts films way before the idea was incorporated into TVB series.
