Looked inside my first aid kid tonight and discovered that all I have in there is a roll of gauze bandage.

Unless I plan to make a mummy the next time I or someone who's visiting gets hurt, that's just not going to get the job done.

Some people are so resistant to change and improvement that I don't know whether to laugh or cry. As we say in Manglish: "Play Number 1, Eat Number 1, Get Raise Number 1 (but actually, never got any), Work All Complain!"

Don't they ever think about what they are doing with their work-lives (since these can't really be called careers --- not at this point, anyway)? Don't they realise that they are stuck in a rut? I hope I find some good candidates over the next couple of weeks. Then, I can recommend to have these resistant strains of workers made redundant.

    Yeah, I'm kinda pissed.

Thanks for listening to the rant.

Came across these Seven Laws for True Success. To be exact, it's Rob Parsons' bestseller, The Heart of Success:

    Don't Settle for Being Money-Rich - Time-Poor
Believe that the Job You Do Makes a Difference
Play to Your Strengths - Find Your Factor X
Believe in the Power of Dreams
Put Your Family before Your Career
    Keep the Common Touch
Don't Settle for Success: Make a Difference - Strive for Significance!

What is your opinion based on the title above? Secondly, have you read this book before?

I know a few people who actually find the above 'so true'. But, when someone does exactly (one or a few) the above in real life around them, the 'few people' elicit such response: "such idealist".

    What's wrong with these 'people'?!

I don't really care if the job I do makes a difference, I only hope to enjoy my job.

Play to my strengths? What about improving my weaknesses.

    Power of dreams? I'll pass.

What the hell is the common touch?

Strive for significance? Isn't that a bit redundant, it's the same as believing your job makes a difference.

That's what I think about it. Self help books, if you need them you're already beyond help.

Your second point reminds me of something I've came across from a Taiwan drama. The leading guy, a young businessman who is more down-to-earth, less schemy than his brother, said something to that effect. Which I agree, cos it make sense.

The dreams part, I'll replace it with faith. I don;t know about others but it happened to me.

Get laid!? Hmmm, I don't know what the holy cow is common touch either.

Strive for Significance! -- This has a hidden meaning of "Don't forget to play dumb when needed!"

Besides Stephanie Meyer's books, this is the other kind of books I'll drop. I'm likely to pick up a self-improvement when the cover reads "How to be an X-men in 24 hours!!".

Success is different for different people. I try to make my own way, and not rely on some random book.

If I needed advice, I'd probably go to someone in my field.

This is tough in that it's ambiguous since the laptop is assembled from parts from a variety of places, and times of manufacture. You can look for the oldest file on the PC by create date. That will probably tell you when the OS was installed but you can't do much more than that. You might be able to track down the model and serial number if it's one of the major vendors like Dell, HP, etc. and see when they were being sold via Google but that will just give you a general time span.

    @darkcser,

Hey, did u get Dragon Age? I just beat the game and the story and characters are excellent. The boss fights are more challenging than Mass Effect. The RPG gameplay is also like those old Baldur's Gate games. Highly recommend it if u haven't played it yet. I was initially put off by the graphics but the story, voice acting and gameplay more than makes up for it.

The hard drive on my main machine died, and I had to recover. Lost some 30+ hours in Borderlands so I had to restart that (playing a different character this time around).

My next RPG purchase will be Risen, Witcher Enhanced, Witcher 2 or Dragon Age. Haven't quite decided yet, and it'll be a while before I get around to it as I still need to at least install and try Far Cry 2 and BioShock. Might also get sucked into playing Tension/Typrop for a change of pace.

Oh, and I'll probably get Ghostbusters...

Yay! I just got a raise. Almost a 25% bump.

When u do get around to it, def. try to get dragon age. its really good. i got the urge to watch lord of the rings and play the baldur's gate and planescape torment games again after finishing dragon age. the storyline and gameplay are that good.

btw, how's Borderlands? I'm going to start that soon. seeing as u put 30+ hours into it, it must be pretty addictive? does the characters u choose influence the storyline? i know there's that chick and there's those other 2 guys.

The storyline is the same, and the dialog is the same regardless of who you are.

I played as Roland (the soldier/engineer) with the deployable turret which can also heal and replenish ammo. After my crash I switched to playing Lilith which I thought would be more stealth-oriented since she has a cloaking ability. I'm somewhat disappointed by this choice since she can only make a melee attack while cloaked, and attacking ends the cloak which has a decent cool down. This usually ends up with you in the midst of several enemies when used offensively... I mostly use it for running away. The other two characters are a gunslinger with a flying pet, and a brawler. I might switch to playing the gunslinger since I seem to prefer the sniper rifle and the revolver.

btw: As I mentioned before it's an action game with RPG elements. It requires a fair suspension of disbelief with skills like Cauterize which lets you heal other players by shooting them...

I watch Bodyguards and Assassins today. Very dramatic, very edgy and got lots of teary eyes scenes. The fights, wow, brutal. Cung Le vs Donnie Yen. Leon Lai channeling Wind from Feng Yun lol. And then there is Hu Jun lol. Im sure I saw Xiao Feng in this movie. Hu Jun clearly channeling Xiao Feng in this movie hehe. Exactly the same as he is in DGSD 2003.

Nice nice.... I'm a little bit disappointed that the story and how the other characters interact with you remain the same regardeless of the character you chose. But seeing that you put 30+ hours into Borderlands, the game must be very addictive. So what's the driving force behind playing the game, is it completing all the quests, furthering the story or just levelling up your stats and getting the best guns? How's the overall atmosphere and grahpics? Lot of ppl are saying this game is very addictive. I'm in a bit of a RPG withdrawal after dragon age and demon's souls so i'll probably start Borderlands tonight.

It will be a miserable feeling.

how will life be like if you can see your future?
It can be a nightmare, a painful feeling if your future is doomed, it depends what the future holds. It will be boring but can also can be challenging as you are given a chance to alter the process in order not to meet a doomed future. Undo the pain.
