I think Deric's over-reaction was due to the shock and hurt cos he really cared for both and Kathy and according to Kathy's words, it seemed like they cheated on him. It was a great blow to his ego - Deric was an outwardly confident but inwardly unconfident person. He hated to be looked down on and to lose, especially to Leon who he considered inferior to him even though they were friends.

To Deric, Kathy was more like a trophy wife. He like her a lot, but he like to show her off. Her dumping of him in the middle of thei rengagement party before of all his friends, colleagues and boss affected him greatly. He was ridiculed by his workmates and his boss listened to them and reduced his workload. Plus, Deric didn't get why he was suddenly dumped cos up to a few days before, Kathy and him were still a loving couple.

He suffered a lot and so when he was offered a reason for the breakup, he accepted it without doubt and wanted to find someone to blame. That's just his personality - he likes to play victim and blame others for his loss.

I think Deric's character was such a great villian because we all felt sorry for him at first and he started off as a pretty decent guy. It was mainly Kathy's fault for acting all lovey-dovey with him, sleeping with him and accepting his proposal, and then wake up one day and say she can't accept him anymore. It was like she wanted to play his feelings all along.

We all felt for him when he married Angela when she got pregnant to sace her an abortion, even though he didn't love her. It was a shame, because he and angela really had a chance to be happy if he accepted her. But once he found out Leon "cheated" him, his attitude towards her changed and he started to take out his anger on her, eventually pushing her to her "suicide".

I know the spoiler was for Suet Seung, but thanks for posting it, charbydis. I watched Breaking Point when it first aired and don't remember much about it. I just remember that I thought Leon's acting was weak and Kathy's character was annoying. No wonder I wasn't rooting for the 2 of them as a couple.

I first watched it when it first aired too. But I was too young to remember the details of the story. But I do remember Lau Siu Ming being Leon's dad and Deric and the apartment that Leon's family lived in. It seems the scriptwriters forgot about Maggie for many episodes and decided to bring her back in.

I'm still fond of Yeung Chak Lum as Au Yeung Fung in LOCH83.
