I say Gu Long's female characters seem interesting but not developed. But of course, the only story I have read is The Legendary Siblings and watched the Chor Lau Heung shows.

Jin Yong's female characters are developed but a bit one dimensional and tied to the main (male) character.

Gu Long wins this by a mile. He seems to know the female psyche a lot better than JY, IMO.

No, not really. He writes good old female stereotypes.

Right, like this below excerpt, translated by Pokit from SPW, right?

Heng-Shan disciples busied themselves applying medicines, wiping blood and wrapping the wounds up. They were doing all these tasks with all their hearts. When any female in the world has met with this kind of urgent situation, they would start talking incessantly. Even though Heng-Shan School disciples were warriors of Wulin, they weren't exempt from this female trait. They were all talking at once as they surrounded Linghu Chong.
Yeah that er...Jin Yong really knows women

That's why women have longer lifespan... we don't strain our hearts by keeping our troubles there.

I suppose it depends on what you find interesting about female characters.

In general I think Gu Long's characters (both male & female) are more interesting than Jin Yong's. Jin Yong's books seem to have at least one prominent female character (although as smurf120 pointed they tend to be tied to the main male character) whereas the women in Gu Long's writings may appear less often but tend to be more complex and less traditional.

While I think GuLong girls are better then JY, I would say LYS and WLS has the best girls.
