Default Can you forgive your *best friend* if he/she cheated on you?

Scenario: your best friend had an affair with your partner behind your back. Can you ever forgive your best friend after he/she did that?

No. I don't see how she could even be considered a friend if she'd go behind my back like that.
    Because I'm somewhere in between,

But the question is can you EVER forgive him/her. I know that most ppl would go berserk when they first find out about the cheating, but what about after 1 year, 5 years, 10 years. How would you treat your ex-best friend. Would you:

    1) not get over it; still hold a grudge and treat them as an enemy or ignore their existence

    2) did get over it; not hold a grudge, but treat them like a distant associate & with more caution

In the long run - it's be the second option for me. I probably won't hold a grudge against them. But I don't think I'd consider that person as a friend again though. Just someone I know from my past.

oh trust me, i can hold a grudge
and ok, 10 years from now, i probably won't be "angry" anymore, but if i do see them, i'd just ignore their existence.

See George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Patricia Boyd (also known as Patricia Boyd Harrison and later, Patricia Boyd Clapton).

Or just listen to this song.

So if I ignore the offender, that means I haven't forgiven, right?

I think I can forgive my best friend.
The only one I can't forgive is my rapist, if I do get raped. Heh.

i don't think so. a friend who would do something like that isn't worthy of being called a friend.

i think i'll be more angry of the friend then the boyfriend. well, it depends on how close the friend is, the closer they are the harder it is to forgive them.
Currently in love with Bae Suzy...for superficial reasons.

Same for me. I'll just forget/pretend they don't even exist anymore.

I hear that there is quite a lot of cheating taking place by the best friends.
They are probably the ones that spend the most time with you and your girl, thereby the opportunity to develop the feelings.
But what people do not know do not hurt.

a person who can have feelings for their friend's life partner should not call themself a friend.

i cherish my closest friends and the ones that i call true friends will never suffer because of my actions. the other 'friends' i could care less.

Totally agreed. I will just ignore her and his existence altogether.

I'd be mad because they didn't include me.

It depends, how much did I love my partner? I think I'd be more angry with my partner and more hurt by the best friend. I'd them not associate with the two of them anymore. Give me more than 5 years, but less than 10 and I think the relationships will go to the point where they are distant people I just knew from my past.

i'd be more pissed off at my gf. if that is the only thing my friend has ever let me down in, i'd probably get over it and in the end be grateful he rid me of a s!ut. plus he has to be the one who tells me and not me finding out by other means. If he tries to hide and lie about it then i'd be even more pissed off.

Alright, let's alter the scenario slightly: what if your best friend did something behind your back with your crush. Can you ever forgive your best friend? And by forgive, I mean "put it behind you", not necessarily that you have to be good friends again.
