Nobody gets paid, and the FX and music are all free too (creative commons), the trick however is that you can't use the shows to directly make money since they need to be free too. (Donations by fans for web costs are okay, but that's pretty much the limit.)

Unlike TWIN STARS, GUNDAM is definitely a copyrighted universe. About 70% of the characters in my fan fictions are my own creations, but that still leaves 30% that are the copyrighted property of Bandai and Nippon Sunrise. I wonder if I'd get busted for doing something like this.

Highly unlikely. Both because Bandai doesn't seem to be hunting down fan-sites for Gundam (to my knowledge...) and because as long as you're not making money you're harmless free advertising for them. If you start trying to sell it, however, expect them to come down on you like the fist of god.

Sounds cool. Admittedly, I do have BGM playing in my head for many of my fan fic scenes, but because I'm not a writer of music, it's always music that has already been written and recorded by others. Heh.

That would not surprise me. Japan's copyright kings take their property rights seriously. During the past few Comic-Con International gatherings in San Diego, Toho Films has sent its representatives and law enforcement personnel to bust merchants who sold gray-market GODZILLA films.
