I just randomly clicked on one of your (podcasts?) and listened for a bit; without having chance to go in depth (it's 3AM!), this is really friggin' cool! How many people do you have working on this total, I'm curious? What is goal of this? Details please!

    Thanks.

I usually use the term Audio Dramas to describe them, but you can use Radioplay, or Audio Play too.

How many people in total? Well, in terms of production there's just me (writer/producer/mixer) and another mixer who's been helping me out. As for actors- that's a difficult thing to answer. My regular cast is about 10 people, but since each episode requires new people I'm always recruiting people from across the net. (Mostly though voiceactingalliance.com and audiodramatalk.com ) Thanks to the way these shows are made the actors can come from anywhere, as long as they have a computer, an internet connection and a decent microphone.

What's the goal? To have fun and tell good stories! If you mean Twin Stars specifically, then I plan for 5 seasons (real life permitting, may end up being shorter) with around 40 episodes in total. The one I released over the weekend is episode 14, and I'm working months ahead on them to get them out for the first of each month since producing them is not a short process.

    Glad you enjoyed them.

Sounds good to me. I usually listen to audio dramas when I'm walking the dog, it's a great use of time.

Let me know what you think.

My current plan is for 4 seasons, perhaps 5. So somewhere between 36 and 45 episodes, with this most recent episode being Episode 17.

Yeah, it's a pretty big story. I wanted to tell an epic space opera adventure, and this story has taken on a life of it's own. As long as my audience keeps coming back, I'll keep making them!

    Thanks for the support!

It's quite an undertaking with, for a fan fiction, some impressive resources behind it. It might not be Lucas or Cameron-like resources, but it's the envy of many other fan fiction writers (including m'oi) to be able to put together something like this.

Ten cast members...how did you recruit them? I doubt I'd be able to assemble ten of my friends to perform something like this (and even if I could, well...let's say not many of them were cut out to be thespians...on the stage *or* behind the mic).

Twin Stars isn't a fan fiction, it's 100% original by me.

And actually, the recruiting part isn't as hard as you might think.

First, this is a Satellite Audio Drama production, which in simplest terms means that all the lines are recorded by actors in their own homes (or wherever) in isolation, and then stitched together via audio editing software. (The actors never actually talk to each other and in most cases don't even know each other!)

Second, there are 2 great places online you can recruit talented voice actors who are looking for roles to play. (For free, too! Since they're doing it for fun and experience.) The first is the Voice Acting Alliance, which tends to have a younger crowd, but a very high turnover of new actors coming and going. The other is the much more stable Audio Drama Talk, which is where most of the more experienced actors and producers (like myself) hang out and trade tips.

If anyone does read this and decide to give it a go, be aware that a) it's a lot of work to produce these things, and b) fanworks tend to get a tonne of auditioners, while the producers of original works have to work more to fill out their casts. Ken your Gundam series as an Audio Drama would probably get more people auditioning than you could handle, but producing it would probably be quite a project. Still, if you have the dedication it could be worth it.

I thought as much. I'm not an expert with all things sci-fi, but I'd never heard of a TWIN STARS book series, comic book series, anime, movie, or television series before.

Hmmm. Have to keep that in mind. These folks are all volunteers? Nobody expects to be paid anything?

Unlike TWIN STARS, GUNDAM is definitely a copyrighted universe. About 70% of the characters in my fan fictions are my own creations, but that still leaves 30% that are the copyrighted property of Bandai and Nippon Sunrise. I wonder if I'd get busted for doing something like this.
