Default do you text or talk on phone while driving?

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/09/te...racted.html?hp

What do you think of drivers who are texting on yapping on their cell while driving? And do you do it? If you do, I would like to smack you in the head. Please stick your head to the computer screen and let me hit you through cyberspace. Thank you.

I would love to see a law making such offenses punishable by prison time and a suspension of revoke of their driver’s licenses. It’s just as bad as DUI’ing.
What are you fighting for? Just mix them into pissing beef balls, stupid.

Talking is OK by me, esp. if using headphone. Texting is far more attention-requiring and dangerous.

I don't like either, but texting is definitely worse.

I personally don't get why people feel the need to keep talking on the phone or texting while they're driving (unless it's for an emergency).

i don't do it. and yes, i hate people who do it too. my friends often ask why i don't pick up my phone when they see me driving around town, and i'm like.. duh! it's because i'm DRIVING! and i hate texting. not only when i'm driving, i just hate texting in general. i hate that people can leave me a screen long text when they can't leave a voice message. it's pathetic.

Same here. I don't even like engaging in phone/text conversations when I'm unoccupied, let alone while I'm operating a vehicle.

both talking on the phone (without a headset) and texting while driving are legal in massachusetts.

I drive a manual car. When I'm on the phone without hands-free kit, my right hand holding the phone to my right ear, my left hand changing the gear (We drive right hand side) and I manage my steering wirelessly using the power of my mind, I thinks its telekinesis. I still doesn't know how to grow a third hand.

Don't follow me, if you want to live longer, I'm badass, so I'm ok but you're not. I can drive with my eyes close using only my sixth sense to guide me.

It's actually illegal in many of the states. Though, there is really nothing wrong with talking on the phone while you are driving, as long as you are conscious of the act and take proper precautions to avoid accidents; utilize a hand free headset or an earpiece, or place the other person on speaker mode. It's a habit that keeps me from falling asleep at the wheel. On the other hand, texting while driving is a mindboggling concept. It's incomprehensible how people can juggle both tasks at the same time.

    Agree wholeheartedly!

I've lost count of the number of times I'd be driving behind this swerving slowcoach of a car that can't decide to go on the left or the right of a 2-lane road, only to find out (after overtaking) that the driver had/had been using the phone or texting.

But this next incident was even more ridiculous: The driver in the car was not talking or texting, but fixing her hair with her left hand, then her right one, and finally both hands while going round the bend on a curved road ... before she decided that her hands should really be put on the wheel instead!

I personally think that irresponsible driving is just as bad as robbing somebody. At least when someone robs another person, he’s after money. Irresponsible drivers are just too self-absorbed to care about anyone else. They put the lives of way more people at danger at some guy who robs people.

PS, before anyone has another knee jerk reaction, I am not saying irresponsible drivers are all bad people or criminals, I am saying that the ACTION of irresponsible driving is as bad as robbing a person.

I agree with you, harsher punishments are needed for texting while driving. A number of people have died already because of this.

My little cousin got three tickets for texting while driving. Each ticket was more than $400. He did some other risky things on the road in addition to texting, so now his license is revoked.

Studies have shown that using handfree and handheld cell phones doesn't significantly change the driving ability -i.e. it's the distraction that causes accidents, not so much holding the phone. The necessary precautions like using a head piece do not eliminate nor significantly reduce the cost to driver reactions.
