Default New ocean forming in Ethiopia

    Amazing piece of news.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Ethiopian, American and European researchers have observed a fissure in a desert in the remote northeast that could be the "birth of a new ocean basin," scientists said Friday.

Researchers from Britain, France, Italy and the U.S. have been observing the 37-mile long fissure since it split open in September in the Afar desert and estimate it will take a million years to fully form into an ocean, said Dereje Ayalew, who leads the team of 18 scientists studying the phenomenon.

The Earth will last. We as a species might not. But the planet will hold strong.

I agree. It's egotistical for human beings to think that somehow, the Earth won't outlast us. A number of things might happen to humanity in the interim, but the *planet* itself is good for another five billion years barring some unforeseen cosmic catastrophe.

It would take much more than human stupidity to wipe out Mother Earth. She's a tough muttha!

Ken, you of all people, how can you say that. Did you forgot how big those mother****ing Gundam is. Imagine an all out attack by PLANT's ZAFT. How can you forgot Patrick Zala nuclear powered super weapon GENESIS.

With that kind of war, earth will be done in no time. In a million years, I imagine we already scattred all over the galaxy terraforming planets and in war with other aliens out there and with each other

Considering that our space exploration technology is *barely* better than it was forty years ago, I don't think we need to worry about that in a long, long time.

It's not that our technology isn't growing by leaps and bounds; it's just that in the real world, we're more interested in using that technology to devise more ways to distribute and download pornography than we are in building technology to blow up planets.

Maybe that's not necessarily such a bad thing.

Hey, give more credit to all the scientists especially the Japanese huhuhu. You just got no idea what they do in those underground top secret bunker lol . And a million years is a veeerrrrrryyyy long time for the technology to evolve. It's either we extinct or we become so technologically advance race.

You'd need the technology to get to Jupiter before you can harvest G.N furnaces. Way things are looking, we're gonna burn out way faster before then.

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?

I believe that's just a part of the 'Great Rift' system that will eventually reach the middle of Africa.
