Default What is Huang Rong's claim to fame?

Huang Rong was the leader of Beggar Sect and was skilled at the Dog Beating Stick. But she never really mastered her father's signature and most celebrate martial arts The Divine Finger Flick or the Jade Flute Swordplay and hence never truly carried his legacy forward.

Was she really that good that she was close to being as good as the ROCH greats?

The most impressive feat is probably her fighting early ROCH OYF to a draw for over 10 stances.

    1. Probably the most cunning character in the Jin Yong canon.

    2. According to North Beggar Hung 7 Gung, possibly the best cook in the world.

    3. Easy on the eyes.

    4. Did decently as 19th Beggar's Union Chief.

    5. Pretty good martial artist. Not Greats level, but excellent.

major drawback: can't parent for sh*t

Her claim to fame is her father.

She's just lucky she inherited much of her father's and mother's intelligence and skill. Otherwise, whatever she can do, her father does better if he choose to.

And next teir down from great, doesn't equate to near great.

she didn't master her father's skills during LOCH but she improved greatly in the last two years due to 9yin, even through she wasn't great level, she was a renowned expert. she mastered her fathers jade flute swordplay and TZTSG before the start of ROCH. she used TZTSG during ROCH and she demonstrated jade flute swordplay to the wu brothers once when she missed her father.

Did she really master Tan Zhi Sheng Gong and Jade Flute Swordplay?
In ROCH she was always shown using the Dog Beating Stick Technique and I guess the only time she used the Jade Flute Swordplay was to entertain herself when she missed her father. Why did she not use any of her fathers martial arts skills in her fights?

that's an unfair comparrison given that her father has 40 years on her.

she was the leader of the begger sect so she had to carry the dog beating stick around, so she would use the dog beating skill. even after passing the leadership, she still had to carry a bamboo stick. dog beating skill was her best skill. it's superior to jade flute swordplay. HR beat LMC with DBS but did not have confidence in beating LMC with a sword. she used peach blossom islands skills like TZTSG, orchid whisking accuipoint sealing skill and divine descending orchid sword palms to defeat LMC again.

Not every one has the ability to take leadership of a giant organization. The fact she accepts responsibility for 20+ years without foisting it to someone else at every chance she got (ahem, ZWJ) makes her a remarkable leader.

    Default Pregnancy

I seem to recall several passages in ROCH referring to pregnancy disturbing her chi and being quite bad for her body. Didn't GJ offer to give her a massive snow-ginseng in order for her body to recover more fully?

I think it's probably harder to keep all those smelly beggars in line than to go ten stances against OYF, but she seems to have resolved most of the conflict between the dirty/clean shirt faction because we don't hear of it much from her successor. Surely resolving such conflict counts as a near-Great level feat?

How much of it was her work, and how much of it was the work of her Elders? She spent quite a bit of time in Peach Blossom Island.

you can say the same thing about H7G. He seemed to have spent great part of this life travelling and not managing the clan affairs.

HR spent at least 16+ years defending the city while grooming the next clan master. (H7G spent like one summer with her??)

She also operated like chief military strategist when GJ fought against the Jins.
