    Oh that's actually part of the pastry. The pastry is crispy golden brown outside and cream coloured inside.

    The pastry in toad in the hole is the same dough as used in Yorkshire pudding, and is also served with gravy. The main difference, other than shape, is the sausages served with the pastry.

    Spotted Dick is currant cake, usually served with custard as per the picture. The cake has a sharply sweet taste, mellowed by the creaminess of the custard.
