Yes. Dook Goo Kau Bai was, conceptually, an act of desperate and lazy storytelling by Jin Yong...creating a deux ex machina for the benefit of inflating the already overinflated status of certain protagonists.

Jin Yong needed a plot device and, having written himself into a bind (or just not caring enough to be as creative as we know he can be), he went for a cheap, quick method by inventing this mythical "Sword Demon," which had the unconsidered consequence of cutting off his established Greats at the knees. Nice job there, Mr. Cha: all that work you put into cultivating the reputation of the Greats over the 1.75 novels of LOCH/ROCH...gone in a flash with the introduction of Dook Goo Kau Bai, who apparently would beat any Great easier than a Great would kill a common soldier.

The character is lame; it's a wonder he has so many "fans." Ah, well...there's no accounting for taste, I suppose.

The notion "simplicity over technique" as applied to "Dugu 9 sword" is an oxymoron. There is nothing simple about "Dugu 9 Sword". The idea of "always attack" may be simple... but the execution of the idea is complex and filled with exquisite techniques. The "no move" move in "Dugu 9 Sword" is in fact a move... just not visibly recognized so by the un-initiated.

Why dont you hate the creator of 9 Yin as much as Dugu?

He shares a lot of similar qualities.

Most people automatically put him in legendary awesome way above Greats level, he technically has not proven himself in battle (on screen) just as Dugu has not, all he has as proof is the 9 Yin manuals, and 9 Yin doesn't even seem as awesome as Dugu 9 Swords or Heavy Iron Sword to boot.

His name isn't as cool though, so maybe that's why he has less fans and thus less hate from anti-fans.

He had compassion for a poor old woman who was all that remained of his enemies after the decades he spent developing the 9 Yum Jen Ging, making him human.

As amazing as he was, Wong Seung never *bragged* about how awesome he was or his 9 Yum Jen Ging was.

Do the Dook Goo sword techniques enhance the qualities of the other elite skills they are used in conjunction with (i.e. Hong Lung 18 Palms, Cheun Jen Sect martial arts, etc.)?

Does the 9 Yum Jen Ging have a complete history that exists in a natural and uncontrived manner within the storyline (and appears almost from the beginning rather than being dropped out of the sky halfway through the story), and have plausible limitations despite its greatness?

Dugu's side, fans 'justify' how YG and LHC are nowhere near Dugu's level by saying their internal and techniques are not to par. We have no idea what are the differences in internal or external. Face it, there is no claim that Dugu is SM level. He may be, but there is almost no hard evidence.

No DG9J/HIS cannot heal a Great in 2 years, but it brought someone who was far, far below Great (YG) to Great level within a month. Guo Jing took 10+ years.

No it cannot hypnotize anyone....but it can blind 15 people at once with no inner strength.

Yes if you practice DG9J or HIS I'm sure your skills would be enhanced if you used other techniques. YG's fist and palm styles are no doubt improved after practicing HIS.

Dugu 9 Jian was introduced very early on in the story, pretty much as early as 9 Yin. The history is not clear, and it clearly has limitations as he is nowhere close to Ren Woxing or Dongfong Bubai in a real fight.

Yet in threads where we list super powerful figures or whatever...HS constantly comes up while the Greats are nowhere to be mentioned. He is overrated as well....or at least without proof.

I never said Dugu is SM level, it doesn't seem anyone is. I do think that he is most likely #2 of actual characters named. How many people actually think Dugu is a match for Sweeper anyway?
