GJ, YG, and others as "associate members" of the Beggar's Union?

Officially, neither Gwok Jing nor Yeung Gor ever became members of the Beggar's Union. Although Gwok Jing was Union Chief Hung 7 Gung's student and later Union Chief Wong Yung's husband, he never had official membership in the Union; he was "merely" a friend of the Union. Similarly, although Yeung Gor learned the Dog Beating Stick Technique from Hung 7 Gung and Wong Yung and counted Union Chiefs Lo Yau Gerk and Yeh Lut Chai as his friends, he also never officially had any membership status in the Beggar's Union, but was "only" a friend of the Union.

Do you think in light of their pedigree and their close association with the upper echelons of the Beggar's Union, Gwok Jing and Yeung Gor should have been made associate members of the Union? Anyone else might have also deserved associate membership?

Both Gwok Jing and Yeung Gor had much more going for them than just learning the Beggar's Union martial arts and having close associations with several Beggar's Union Chiefs. Both fought alongside Beggar's Union members on numerous occasions against the Jin, the Mongols, and various wulin threats over the course of years. Not that either man would necessarily want or need it, but it seems appropriate that both should have at least associate member status.

I think Gwok Jing did have something like lay member status with the Cheun Jen Sect. During a few occasions in ROCH, he referred to himself as an acolyte of the Cheun Jen Sect and to Yau Chui Gei and Ma Yuk as teachers.

This may sound funny, but I believe the prerequisite of joining the Beggars' Union is that one has to be a beggar. This is similar to Shaolin Sect, with them accepting monks.

If we don't count the leaders, and we look at the elders, then down the ranks, almost of them are beggars.

There were Clean and Dirty Beggars, however, and during DGSD, LOCH, ROCH, and HSDS, we saw a number of Clean Beggars who weren't Union Chiefs.

Moreover, Yeung Gor could qualify either way since he *had been* a dirty beggar (albeit unaffiliated with the Union) when he was a boy in Ga Hing Village.

Why were the leaders an exception to this "prerequisite"? Huang Rong and Yelu Qi were definitely no beggars before or even during the time they served as leaders
