Default Looking ahead: the SPCNET Forums in 2010

A new year will soon be upon us, so it's time to take a look ahead.

SC has not shared any specific plans for upgrades and improvements to the forums, although that is always a possibility. As members, however, I think we can make some (non-technical) upgrades to the forums in the coming year.

It's been remarked lately that the forums lack the good spirits and enthusiasm that they had a few years ago, and I'm inclined to agree. Part of it has been things that have been going on in the world around us, and a part of it has been things going on in our personal lives.

In any case, I propose that we use 2010 to rebuild the positive vibe that permeated these forums during its best days. We can make these forums friendly and fun again.

I think the forum needs more "interesting" off-topic threads, like we used to have years ago. Those really helped people get to know each other and fostered a more community sense.
Also, not a lot of new people post, and a lot of the older members are also dwindling.

I can bring Light Side Candide back but someone has to be the Dark Side around here.

Can we smoke weed, hold hands and sing now?

You're high already, aren't you? I have no idea what you're talking about, light versus dark.

Though the last bit sounds nice, except I don't like touching random people.

Best of luck, spcnet 2010. Thinking of some suggestions I can offer, I have none currently.

I remember those series of interviews with forum members. People get to vote who they wanted to be interviewed. That was very interesting and definitely brings people here closer.

How bout mock interviews? Someone pretends to be some sort of character. It doesn’t have to be a famous person. E.g. someone could pretend to be a pompous member of high society who enjoys gangsta rap, or backwoods Unabomber sort of loner who likes classical music, or creepy serial killer obsessive type reviewing some trivial Dungeons and Dragon and Star Trek game/show/episode (like that 70 minute Phantom of the Menace review), or some gay male stripper who is racist, or a cat who speaks 6 different human languages.

Get some creativity flowing around here.
What are you fighting for? Just mix them into pissing beef balls, stupid.

Merry Christmas to all our members!

Thanks Ken for starting this topic. I agree that we should look to see how we can improve the forum experience in the new year.

We plan to upgrade the forum again some time in 2010 with the latest and greatest features offered from vBulletin but I believe content is always king and the forum content comes from no other than the members. Part of the problem might be that we are not getting enough new members to post or that there are not enough new topics, so we can all contribute to that.

I'm open to suggestions too on design, features, or usability on the forums that members think will improve the experience on the forums.

We can do a round of survivor as well. That worked well in the past.

Another suggestion would be to have a drawing competition provided there is enough people who are willing to join.

Drawings either made by hand or with a computer.

There are people here who I know can draw.

This has been very popular online to shared their own personal art drawings either by hand or computer.

Rosely,I'm in the same boat as you too my voice isn't too high. Some people are still scared to post their singing online.Although, people who do actually posted theirs online does sounds better than the original artists depending how much effort you put into it.

Should I join, I'll stick to the conventional hand-drawn. Instead of the usual drawing competition, how about comic strip with a theme? Who knows, one of us might just be the next Charles Schulz!

Yes Ceddie, you should join in. The drawings would have to be based on a particular theme, but we can also have varying themes in different competitions.

I'd like to find a good title for the competition just like "SPCNET IDOL" have for theirs. Anyone with suggestions?

SPCasso sounds good, but the addition of Net sound abit off the line. How about SPCasso de Arts?
