Default Characters: Chu Liuxiang novels -vs- Luk Siu Fung novels

The Lu Xiaofeng series and Chu Liuxiang series are 2 of Gu Long's most popular, and have become household names in the Chinese-speaking world. It is perhaps hard to say which of the 2 is more popular--at least I think so. However, when I thought about the characters in each series, it seemed to me that Lu Xiaofeng had more interesting "friends" who appeared throughout the novels, than Chu Liuxiang had. For example, SWORD GOD Ximen Chuixue and the blind Hua Manlou are often cited for their coolness and inspirational attitude, respectively. However, did Chu Liuxiang have such cool friends/sidekicks? I don't remember ever hearing any love for Hu Tiehua or Chu Liuxiang's sister-like women. The only character from Chu Liuxiang who gets mentioned once in a while, that I can recall, is Red Dot of the Central Plains (Zhongyuan Yat Dim Hung). Water Matriarch Yin Ji is mentioned once in a blue moon, but not in a lovable context like Ximen and Hua.

Is it true that Chu Liuxiang series is a one-man army?

Sikong Zhaixing. Look, Lu Xiaofeng has so many interesting friends.

Perhaps Lu Xiaofeng novels are more popular than Chu Liuxiang in the real world? It could be one of the reasons.

I like Chor Lau Heung but not Luk Siu Fung. I find Chor Lau Heung is much more interesting with all the hotties following him all around.

That's cool, but I don't think she enjoys much fandom here compared to Snow Blowing and Fully Occupied Floor.

Sikong Zaixing is one of my personal favorite side characters, too

Though, i personally enjoyed the Chu Liuxiang series (1-4) more than the Lu Xiaofeng (1-4) ones. (The later CLX & LXF books are disregarded because they were both full of @#$%).

Chor Lau Heung (the character) was never in danger of being upstaged by his supporting characters, whereas Luk Siu Fung seemingly got upstaged by his supporting characters and villains in every story. The problem wasn't that Luk Siu Fung lacked charisma; he had just as much charisma as Chor Lau Heung, but his supporting players and antagonists were just that much cooler.

Overall, in CHOR LAU HEUNG, the supporting characters are just a bit less interesting than those in other Gu Long novels. There's no Fa Mun Lau, Sai Mun Chui Sheut, or Ah Fei in CHOR LAU HEUNG. Wu Teet Fa and 1 Dim Hung were fine characters, but they weren't going to steal the show from the hero.

And yet, despite lack of memorable supporting players, Chor Lau Heung series remain extremely popular alongside Dagger Lee and Luk Siu Fung series. How can that be?

    Maybe people love Adam Cheng.

I would not say that the CHOR LAU HEUNG supporting characters were not memorable, but they lacked the overall charisma to challenge their stories' protagonist the way that the LUK SIU FUNG characters did.
