    Default Eating Dog Meat

Since we had so much debate and controversy over sharks, how about dog/cat meat? Dog meat is eaten in China, Vietnam, and Korea, and possibly other countries. I know it's legal in China, probably legal in Vietnam, and recently made illegal in Korea.

Is there still a "problem" if the dogs are raised for food, treated humanely and killed for food, just like pigs and chickens? Where do you draw the line? I'm still willing to have my "kindergartner farm" in my back yard. I have high fences. There'll be no escape!

There is no line. I can't wait till you pop some out and we can feast. Make sure you tag them and deworm them.

i've never had dog, but i don't have problems with people eating dogs.

the problem with eating shark(fin)s is not necessarily the "cruelty" of it, but rather because the sharks are an endangered species--that's where the line is drawn for me.

dogs arn't endangers (not that I know of anyways). i don't see the problem with killing a few for food. If it belongs to you, then go ahead and eat it if you want (don't go hunting someone else's pet).

If it's got meat, is not particularly disgusting or poisonous, I wouldn't mind giving it a try. Gotta catch em all. Ya know.

I'd eat Pikachu meat, provided that it's seasoned right.

I don't have the heart to eat. Yeah, it's the HEART feeling that is stopping me. It links me to think of their cry before death.

On the other hand, I can kill a meaty fat chump for food from any over-populated country anytime.

On a serious note, I'll stick to the basics before another wave of SARS come along.

Same here, I would try it if I got the chance. As RYY said, some shark species are seriously endangered currently which is the main reason I'm trying my best to skip it.

Although, this reminds me of the most akward onversation I ever had with my mother who is a buddhist and knows alot about buddhism, enlightment and other customs.

She told me I can't ever eat dog meat, turtle meat, pig blood etc because they are extremely yin, so I was like sure no problem, then she dropped the bomb on me and said 'you can't ever eat p*ssy either, that's the epitome of Yin' and proceeded to ask me how many salads I had tossed and how often...

So yeah, I'll prolly never eatdog meat to even certain things out

Dog meat is popular in Northern Sumatera area, part of Indonesia. They have a delicious way to serves it, you won't resist without knowing it is a dog meat.

    FYI only.

As long as it's not my dog (or a stolen dog) and as long as it's bred in decent conditions and for food - and killed in a more or less humane way, let other people eat whatever dead animals they prefer.

(I ate dog meat once and it was quite yummy, actually.
Eating dogs is no Asian specialty, anyway... It's been pretty common in some regions of Europe - and among particular social groups - for quite a long time, I believe; and maybe in some of those places it still is.)

Dogs are known as "man's best friend" for a reason. I have two dogs and they're like members of the family. Since I'm against eating family members, I would never eat dogs or any other type of animal I have or have had in the past as a pet. People who choose to eat dog meat have probably never formed an emotional bond with a dog, so I can't blame them without being a hypocrite for the same reason I eat other types of meat. The moment I become attached to a cow, pig, or chicken, I would no longer eat that species again.

I think eating exotic animals is ok, nothing wrong with it. For dog meat, it's not like pork or beef, it taste extremely good if you know how to cook it right with all the appropriate spices. Otherwise it will be disgusting.

Usually, when I smell an unusual and dodgy fragrance, I will ask what is it before I tuck and enjoy it mindlessly.

Lady Zhuge's post literally reminded me of the animals my family rare. We rare chickens, ducks, one mother goose, two pigs, rabbits, fishes, cats and dogs. Lovely memories. Only the chickens end up on our diner but should any animal leave that little farm, we must go through the mother goose - she's the boss, like a mafia. My uncles/aunties will lure her away with food and blindfold her when a chicken is needed to leave the cage.

We never silence the pigs because they were like our right and left envoys. Anyway, as little as I was, I remember crying over my favourite black chicken's (I called it Xiaohei) death when I saw him on our diner. He was used for my grandpa's birthday celebration. I didn't touch that dish. I just can't because it was very sad. I hated my uncle for that reason that he looked at me with a disgusting grin and burbed out loud after saying "No more" in our dialect. Gross!!

Some people in China are now pushing for the ban of dog and cat meat consumption.

Hmm they care enough for dogs and cats... how about pigs, chickens and cows? They are not animals too?

Not the entire world is ready to go meatless.

    Well, that's praiseworthy for China.

I'm not used to having domestic pets like dogs and cats as food. And, I am not willing to try. Now as I recall, the memorance of my black chicken (Xiaohei aka Siu Hak) waves my intention of going less meaty.

Then again, pigs, chickens, cows, lambs....aren't they known as livestock? I'm not so fond of porky though.

Livestock refers to animals reared for... you know. No species is specifically fixed to be a livestock, meaning we can "de-livestock" a species anytime as easily as we want to make one into a livestock.

The only difference is that dogs and cats have a traditional role of being pets... but otherwise they are still fair game.
