Ren is a bright eyed young man new to the work force with the inspiring can-do attitude.

Once he's been in it for a few years and the can-do energy has all been leeched off by fat lazy government workers, we will never see this rant when his workplace is shut down because of snow or some other pussy reasons. Instead, he'll celebrate it by wasting time on the Internet just like the rest of us.

Can't speak for other government agencies, but the people I've been working with at State have honestly been some of the most intelligent, hard working people I've had the pleasure to meet. 10 hour days are the norm, and 12 hour days are more common than 8; the higher up you go, the more hours in the day become fair game, from what I've seen.

Anyhow, to return to this case, the issue isn't that the workplace is shut down; it's that the whole damn public transportation system is shut down, so there's nothing to do and nowhere to go, especially in Northern Virginia. I have the feeling that Thursday is going to be another dead day...

I have a friend who lives in Woodbridge, and from the photos she's been posting on Facebook, it wouldn't matter if you did have a car, RWX. She spent three days trying to dig hers out.

We had a pretty nasty snowstorm that shut down things here in Portland during Christmas 2008, so I can empathize with your stir-craziness.
