My siblings and I are aged 24, 25, and 26...so we're all in the same age group but with radically different personalities, political leanings, religions beliefs, and perspectives on life. If there's an age difference, possibly that can be reconciled with maturity, but my siblings and I will just have to tolerate each of our differences.
    I like me.

    I concur.

It's the receiving of "clear, logical instructions" from the business side that's more difficult

Well, a good programmer (or ahem, engineer) should have the ability to extract useful information from customers/stakeholders, and turn it into clear, logical instructions

    Survivorship bias pure and simple.

I wrote my first two lines of code back in 1992 or so in some flavor of basic:

    10: beep
    20: goto 10

or maybe drawing a box in Logo in 1990.

Real programming for me started in 1994 with Turbo Pascal (real as in with data structures like trees and linked lists).

The fact that I'm still programming, and commenting about it means that I have some aptitude...

Beginner classes should not be taught in C++.

That is like Shaolin teaching one of the 72 Supreme Arts to a new student.

This is certainly something not unfamiliar to me. Whenever I need to google up something for work purposes, I'll end up in SPCNET or FB.
What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?

That might mean you don't enjoy your job then lol. Just like how I don't enjoy the university (college) periods and only look forward to the long holiday breaks.
