Default How much of an advantage did the HS and DS provide in actual combat?

The Heaven Sword and the Dragon Sabre were among the best weapons ever seen in wulin. Regardless of a martial artist's skill, he/she would fear whomever wielded the Dragon Sabre in hand. Likewise, when Mit Jeut See Tai fought Granny Golden Flower without the Heaven Sword, Mit Jeut was unable to defeat Golden Flower. With the Heaven Sword in hand, however, Mit Jeut was able to defeat Golden Flower handily.

Clearly, the weapons provided a boost...through their sheer intimidation factor if nothing else. Just how much of a boost did either of them provide, however? If the two opponents are relatively close in martial arts, as Mit Jeut and Golden Flower were, then I can see the Heaven Sword (or Dragon Sabre) providing an advantage. On the other hand, if, say, Sung Ching Sheu wielded the Dragon Sabre, he'd *still* be unable to defeat a barehanded Cheung Mo Gei.

Same as all the JY PC games... it gives an attack boost of +110

In practical terms, what would that mean? Would it mean that someone such as Chan Yau Leung or Sung Ching Sheu would be able to defeat Cheung Mo Gei?

Maybe they would be able to help Dugu Qiubai manage to overcome Chuck Norris in a drawn-out epic battle.

If Zhang Wuji is totally unaware that the opponent has the weapon, then Song Qingshu has about 10% chance of succeeding. Otherwise, no chance at all.

I mean, even Eight-Armed Swordsman Fang Dongbai wielding the Heavenly Sword was no match for Zhang Wuji, and that was before Zhang Wuji reached his peak in the novel.

Im having a hard time understanding why wulin people wanted that sabre so much. Most of them dont even realize that there is a secret behind the sabre. They only think that the sabre itself would give them power over wulin. And how exactly would it do that? Its sharp, yes, but an average fighter wont stand a chance against an elite, with or without Dragon sabre.

Dont they learn anything? Most of the owners of the Dragon sabre are killed. They should shy away from the sabre if they were smart, because it is like a death sentence to have it.

And OT, what the hell is so great of being Master of wulin?
You do know that it is just fiction, dont you?

You have to be 'better' so much so that you do not need to clash weapons with the opponent. At that kind of gap, I think the DS or HS is no factor.

e.g. Lin Pingzhi when fighting the Qingcheng goons, made an attempt not to clash weapons and he could pull it off.

However, in DGSD times, I fail to see how a DS or HS is going to make any difference if you are up against the likes of JMZ and his flaming blade hand or MRB with his 80 foot Canhe strike or if Xu Zhu threw acorns at you.

Would the blades be able to hold up against DY's chi swords?

I don't see how having these swords can increase your fighting ability in a world of LDA's.

Going back to the analogy of +110 attack power...

Much like RPG video games, there is usually a complex formulla with variable factors that determine damage. I think Wuxia is similar (albeit in a less mathematical fashion). Let's supposed 2 characters each with similar stats; i.e. they are both from the same school, trained the same arts, have the same height, have same internal energies...etc. Then a +110 vs a + 0 is a huge factor.

But as with all RPG's, the higher level you go, the less the weapon matters. Then the damage ratio is determined more by your stats, the techniques, and your lvl.

HS might give 110 attack but in most mmo/rpgs the most powerful items also have a resounding weakness to balance them out. The DS definitely fit the bill because no matter how much advantage it gave you - in the long run 80% of wulin will harass and zerg rush the crap out of you. So unless you planned on just defeating a handful of ppl you could not beat otherwise and then dying or going into permanent hiding you should make a point of not being in the same province as it unless you know the secret.

If you wanted to kill someone with it, just gift it to them and announce it to wulin and wulin will do your work for you.
