China’s media censorship immoral: Dalai Lama

India Blooms News Service Bhopal, Mar 18 (IBNS): Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama on Thursday criticized media censorship in China, particularly the Chinese government’s move to control all information flowing into its country concerning Tibet.

“1.3 billion Chinese people have every right to know the reality. Censorship and distorted information are immoral,” the Dalai Lama said at a press conference, after delivering a keynote address on human rights in the Bhopal Assembly.

Terming the media censorship ‘immoral’, he said China was only depriving its citizens from correct information.

Censorship cannot fool rest if the world, he added.

On the issue of democracy in China, the Dalai Lama cautioned against changing to an open society in a very fast-paced manner as it could lead to chaos.

He, however, favoured change to democracy in a gradual manner.

He reiterated his stand on greater autonomy for Tibet within China rather than complete separation from China.

The leader also favoured good relations between China and India – the two most important nations in the region in their own right.
