General Kwan Yu of the Three Kingdoms' period of Chinese history is Chinese civilization's icon for righteousness and loyalty. Curiously, through modern times, Kwan Yu is equally in icon for both Chinese law enforcement authorities, who often keep images or statuettes of General Kwan in their stations and offices, and for criminal triad groups, whose members swear oaths of allegiances through General Kwan. To me, it's curious that such opposed groups share the same icon.

i think both admire him for his loyalty and brotherhood, and not really for righteousness or whatever. loyalty is important no matter if you are a cop or a gang member.
