You're welcome! The first couple of chapters are actually quite slow, but things will pick up as the story goes on.

Okay, I have an odd question for people who are more familiar with the story. Was the SB movie "Xiao za zhong" based on Xia Ke Xing? I do not know how I got that idea in my head- superficial similarities, I guess. But Xia za zhong really depressed me, so I kind of hope not...
    Thanks!
SB's Xiao Zazhong is not related to Xia Ke Xing; thank goodness!

Got the following plot summary of 'Xiao Zhang Zhong' from http://www.hkflix.com/xq/asp/filmID....qx/details.htm

The incomparable Lily Li was considered an actress with an attitude, which was perfect for her becoming a bad-girl fighter. In "The Bastard", she plays a beggar girl that becomes a target for evil men plotting to make "The Bastard" a scapegoat for murder because he happens to like the son of a jailed dignitary's son accused of murder. "The Bastard" is actually a new take on an old Western classic, Alexandre Dumas' "Man In The Iron Mask" where epee and foil fencing is replaced with tornadoes of hands and feet.
It seems that 'The Bastard' is based on the novel "Man In The Iron Mask".

SPT is already my favourite JY character before reading the book. But the more I read the book, the more I like him.

I like reading his childish thought processes and his funny dialogs. I also find that he is pretty playful and is capable of anger, aspects of his personality I did not see in series adaptations.

    Hahahaha!

Thanks, Huang Yushi, you made my day. I was kind of dreading it being the same story. Not that it would automatically be bad, just... oh, never mind.

Kidd- The main character in "Xiao Zhang Zhong" doesn't know his real name, and just goes by "little bastard" (kind of like GZZ) He learns martial arts from some wierd old master in a cliff-temple , but knows almost nothing about the "real world." (kind of like GZZ) Once he leaves the temple, he runs into lots of bad people, and is mistaken for powerful, but bad guy, who he looks like. (Kind of like I suspect GZZ is about to be.)

Like I said, all superficial similarities, but enough to make me worry. I liked LiLi Li's character a lot, and so the end of the movie made me sad.

    Cheers!

We are only half-way through Chapter 4, so a lot more things will happen soon. As for the real Clan-Leader ... hmm, do you want to hazard a guess? The "special update via PM" deal is still on, you know!

Looking at the trends in this story so far I see only 2 possible options: the first is gougazhongs mother (the yellow dog seems an unlikely suspect ), the 2nd option is the boy/rapist that has been missing since the beginning of the story, the son of black & white sword (yes I'm horrid with names). Again the girl that commited suicide seems to unlikely an option, not many female clan leaders out there.

Hmm. thinking about that, I suppose that excludes his mother too. SO I guess it's the son of black & white sword. No other people are available for the position at this time and of course it must be a "known" person.

Edit: some more speculation now I start thinking about it. For gougazhong to be considered a good stooge they must be reasonably interchangable, so the age must be about right too, strenghtening the case for the son of black/white sword. Maybe there is a family link? Could they have the same father? Wife and mistress, 2 sons, one good, one evil, fits the caricature perfectly. A classic.

I still think the real leader is Gou ZaZhong, maybe his father who left his mother?

Let me throw a spanner into the works!
The real Clan-Leader has already been mentioned in Chapter 4, and this person is ....!!! [fill out the blank and tell me why you think so, if you haven't done so already ]

PS: I'll be giving out more than one "special update via PM", so everyone stands a chance to receive it if you make your guesses before the next projected update on 3 Oct.

Already been mentioned?? I was thinking it might be someone related to Shi Qing; perhaps his missing son changed his name to Potian. But he wasn't mentioned at all in Chap 4. I'm clueless!

So far these are the characters that have been mentioned:

    - Bei Haishi
    - Incense-Master Mi
    - Incense-Master Yun
    - Clan-Leader Situ
    - Xia Yanke
    - Gouzazhong
    - the green-clothed girl
    - yellow-clothed girl
    - Benevolent elder

Each one unlikelier than the next. Couldn't have been any one of these, could it now? Oh boy, the suspense..

This is what they call 远在天边,近再眼前 -- seemingly far away, but actually close at hand. All right, enough of teasing from me. I'm going to go finish up the next instalment, so that the lucky participants will get their "special update via PM" on time.

This only confirms my guess. In chapter four a clan-leader Shi is mentioned, which I think is the surname of the Shi couple (black sword/white sword couple). So the real clan leader must be their misbehaving son. Wasn't this boy also called a little bastard by Wang WanRen in chapter 2. (well I looked it up, he said little... little.. little... instead ).The anologies keep popping up.
