Again the girl that commited suicide seems to unlikely an option, not many female clan leaders out there.

Hmm. thinking about that, I suppose that excludes his mother too. SO I guess it's the son of black & white sword. No other people are available for the position at this time and of course it must be a "known" person.

Edit: some more speculation now I start thinking about it. For gougazhong to be considered a good stooge they must be reasonably interchangable, so the age must be about right too, strenghtening the case for the son of black/white sword. Maybe there is a family link? Could they have the same father? Wife and mistress, 2 sons, one good, one evil, fits the caricature perfectly. A classic.
Now that's what I call a really well-thought-out guess! A special update has been sent to you, SevenFortunes, for your good work! But ....

(well I looked it up, he said little... little.. little... instead ).The anologies keep popping up.
... there is more than one variety of "Shi" in this story. Plus, Wang Wanren's "little... little... little..." is more abusive than the endearing way that Gouzazhong perceives his name!

Keep on going and you'll hit the jackpot someday!

    - Bei Haishi
    - Incense-Master Mi
    - Incense-Master Yun
    - Clan-Leader Situ
    - Xia Yanke
    - Gouzazhong
    - the green-clothed girl
    - yellow-clothed girl
    - Benevolent elder

Each one unlikelier than the next. Couldn't have been any one of these, could it now? Oh boy, the suspense..

All the special updates for the week have been given out. Chapter 4 will be updated in its original post in a few days' time --- once the lucky ones have had the opportunity to read their PMs!

    Until then,

Just read the update, and I *think* I know who... now I just have to search through Chapter 4 and confirm if he's been mentioned. I must've missed the mention the first time around!

Don't mean to confuse you further, but ... actually, the person is also mentioned in Chapter 3...

Certainly not before DGSD, because Wu Dang and Z3F were mention in the book.

    Hello bundak!

Thank you for dropping in; and thanks for using your first post in this thread! I am glad you are enjoying the twists and turns of Xia Ke Xing. There are more in store, and do return if you want to know that happens next.

There's a little "story" behind the special updates. When readers have questions about what happens next or who someone really is, I usually allow other readers to answer these questions by "guessing". Those who have read the novel can't participate, of course, but those who try to help others by guessing the answers will receive a special update in their mailbox.

If there are no questions (and answers/guesses) from anyone, no special updates will be sent.

Don't worry if you haven't/didn't made any guesses. The same updates will be posted in the thread (in the original posts of the respective chapters) a few days after the special updates have been sent out.

If you subscribe to this thread (see the lower left corner of the screen for the subscription mechanism), you will be informed of subsequent updates and posts.

also is the time of Xia Ke Xing story after the smiling proud wanderer or is it before Demi gods and semi devils?
Most readers agree that it takes place some time in the Ming Dynasty (after Smiling Proud Wanderer, some say) but it cannot be ascertained.

If we go by the 1st para of Chapter 1, there are two possibilities:
    (a) 1,000 years after Li Bai wrote the poem, which puts the story towards the end of the Ming Dynasty and dangerously close to the Qing Dynasty;
    (b) 1,000 years after the Warring States Period, which puts the story in the Tang Dynasty!

Possibility (b) doesn't work at all because Wudang is mentioned in the story, so it has to happen after Wudang was established. So Ming, post-Smiling Proud Wanderer, is actually a good bet.

We'll see if there are further clues as the translation progresses.

    Cheers

Chapter 4 has been updated in its original post:
    http://www.spcnet.tv/forums/showpost...&postcount=161

Zhan Fei of the Hall of the Victorious Leopard has a great secret to report...

    ---

We are about 3/4-way through Chapter 4. There's another 1/4 more to go before we can move on to Chapter 5, but I've been pretty swamped with work this month. So if the subsequent updates are either short, slow or non-existent for an extended period of time, please fogive me. I assure you, I'll stick with this translation for as long as I can, barring any threat to life and limb.

    Cheers,
    HYS

PS: Has anyone been visiting the Facts and Figures on Xia Ke Xing? It can be quite informative for the curious as well as the interested. There are also some new pictures there.

Actually no, he doesn't come across as that kind of guy at all. It's just that a lot of these stories seem to have unfaithful spouses as a major plot device getting conflicts started. It's either the lechers who do this knowingly or the tragic stories of lovers parted while young then getting married to others, the father never even knowing about the offspring (or even the fate of his former lover). Shi Qing could fit in this latter category perfectly. Say for instance, young love with a woman his father deemed totally inappropriate, father takes measures to get rid of the interloper and gets his son married to a "proper" match. Then maybe the proper match turns out to be an even better soulmate than the first.
Now I'm going to stop before I get inspired and write the novel myself

    Hello everyone!

My October workload has just cleared! While I suspect November will be another busy month, I will be posting the remainder of Chapter 4 in a couple of days. Chapter 5 will follow after that.

Just in case the forum goes down again, you can choose to be notified of updates via email. Just drop me your email address via PM or email itself: [email protected]. Hope to hear from you soon!

    Cheers

That's an interesting premise, SevenFortunes. You should really start writing some day, maybe fanfic or something! The truth about the 2 guys (i.e. Shi Qing's son and Gouzazhong) will be revealed later in the story, so watch out for it!

Hi efflix! Thanks for dropping in! Yeah, the misunderstandings are classic. Everyone thinks Gouzazhong is bad, and Gouzazhong thinks everyone is nice!

Oooh Beee! Glad you like it! The last part of Chapter 4 in which the development of Gouzazhong's internal strength is explained, was really tough. I'm relieved it's done ... but there's more in Chapter 5!
