Not many photographs of the late wuxia novelist Gu Long are in circulation on the Internet, and the most well-known photo is probably this one:

The odd thing for me is that Gu Long, at least in this photo, is a dead ringer (no pun intended) for one of my closest childhood friends. My buddy Victor (real name withheld) and I go back to 1980; we met in the second grade, and we're *still* buddies today. Victor was never much of a wuxia fan, and I doubt that he's ever watched an adaptation of a Gu Long story on television before, let alone read any of Gu Long's books (Victor is of Chinese-American heritage, but oddly, his parents never really bothered to instill much Chinese culture or language into Victor or his three siblings, and they grew up mostly American-influenced). I'll be darned, though, if Victor (as an adult) doesn't look a hell of a lot like Gu Long used to.
