Default New Legend of the White Snake - 又见白娘子 [Zuo Xiao Qing, Ren Quan, Shen Xiao Hai]

    Poster source: http://ent.qq.com/a/20100329/000541.htm

Yep, they're making this again. Filming started this past March 25th in Dali, Yunnan. The major difference in this version is that they've added more humanistic elements to the story. For instance, Fa Hai and Xu Xian become good friends. Fa Hai falls for Bai Su Zhen, but is willing to help actualize the love between Su Zhen and Xu Xian, saving Xu Xian time and time again. Why do I get the feeling that Hai Ge Ge is playing Tao Ge Ge again, but this time with a shaved head and monk robe?

Director: Liu Feng Sheng (Da Qi Ying Xiong Zhuan, Legend of Chu Liu Xiang - Ken Zhu version, etc.)

    Length: 35 episodes

Estimated broadcast period: Late 2010 or early 2011

    Cast

Zuo Xiao Qing as Bai Su Zhen / Bai Niang Zi (White Snake)
    Ren Quan as Xu Xian
Shen Xiao Hai as Fa Hai
Queenie Tai as Xiao Qing (Green Snake)
Liu De Kai as Hei Long Wang
Zhao Qing as Bai Zu Zhen Ren
He Jia Yi as Zhu Que
Miao Hao Jun as Liu Gong De
Cao Yan Yan as Xu Jiao Rong
Jiang Ling as Huo Qi Lin
    Song Ge as Liu Ling

Okay, I'll be a little less biased with the pics.

    oh..hmmm, why?

Why do I get the feeling that Hai Ge Ge is playing Tao Ge Ge again, but this time with a shaved head and monk robe?
    oh...hmmm, why?

LoL j/k but really though, I'd rather they modify the story like the Fann Wong version and have Fa Hai be Xiao Qing's main beau, however contentious their relationship may be. I'd love to see Chen Sha Sha's Xiao Qing with Xiao Hai's Fa Hai together...but alas. Chen Sha Sha was so funny, and her outfit was too cute on her.
    I like me.

What exactly is the relationship between Bai Niang Zi and Fa Hai after all?

Xu Xian hopes to become Fa Hai's disciple

Filming is scheduled to wrap at the end of June. The team is approaching the part of the story involving Guan Yin. Originally there were rumors that Angie Chiu was going to play the part, but that won't be the case. Guan Yin will be played by "a mysterious individual", which will hopefully serve as a delightful surprise for everyone.

    The Main Quatro

    Bai Niang Zi

    Xu Xian

    Xiao Qing

Why does she look like Xiao Lan to me?

    Fa Hai

I feel your angst. I do, I do.

Legend of the White Snake brings back so many childhood memories- it's one of my favourite tv shows of all time. And now, yet we have another remake of a classic. *sigh* Zhuo Xiao Qing looks too old to be BNZ, but I do have a soft spot for Ren Quan, so I guess we'll see...

It seems you're quite a fan of Shen Xiao Hai, Lady Zhuge. Have you seen "Kai Chuang Sheng Shi" (I think that's what's its called). Shen Xiao Hai plays Li Shi Min (costars Sun Fei Fei as Princess of Sui). Quite a good series, if not a little too biased towards Li Shi Min. But definitely worth watching.

I agree, even though Angie Chiu was older than Zuo Xiao Qing when she played Bai Niang Zi.

Yep, I've seen KCSS. The series was pretty good, but Hai Ge's performance wasn't one of his best, nor was it very memorable. Plus I didn't feel like he had much chemistry with Sun Fei Fei.

Aahhhh......the cast is not pretty! If you can't find someone more beautiful than Angie Chiu to play Bai Niang Zi, then why bother with a remake? You know it's going to bomb..... i guess some people like to learn things the hard way. *sigh*

...then they should have just stopped after Angie Chiu's version. But I'm surprised they're remaking this so soon after Liu Tao's version (although maybe I shouldn't be, considering how not-so-long they waited to remake HSDS and with the two remakes of JTTW being so close together).

I think Zuo Xiao Qing looks better in modern dramas. The actress for Xiao Qing looks like a total miscast. She's neither cute nor pretty. I'm okay with both of the leading men in here though, although Hai Ge wouldn't have been at the top of my list to play a monk.

Eh...average at best. It looks like anyone can become movie stars nowadays in China. Have you guys seen the new Yang Gui Fei Mi Shi? That's another average looking Chinese girl wrongly cast as one of the most beautiful women of Ancient China With looks like that, it'll take holy intervention to topple a kingdom because no king is going to be THAT desperate.

Well, beauty is subjective. Especially when casting for a role like Yang Gui Fei, chances are there will be a lot of people disappointed with whichever actress they end up choosing.

Though, I will say that in this series, Zuo Xiao Qing does look too tired, or at least a bit too mature, for the role. Maybe she just has one of those faces? In any case, I think she is pretty decent at acting, since I do recall watching her in A Chinese Style Divorce and a little bit of that period piece she did with Chen Dao Ming some time later, and having a generally good impression.

As for the Fai Hai plot change....well, we'll just see how it goes...

Oh really? I thought his performance was quite good. I do agree on the chemistry part, but that's also partly due to the lack of screen time between the couple. The series did, after all, take a more historical perspective.

I don't know if anyone's listened to the new theme song. It's adapted from the old classic theme song "Qian Nian Deng Yi Hui". They've changed the lyrics, and now it's really weird. The tune is ever so familiar, but the lyrics are... different, and they just don't work. I wish they'd stop trying to reinvent classics.

Indeed, 又见白娘子。。。。holy! They are making another version again??!!!"Xu Xian hopes to become Fa Hai's disciple?", well there's a little twist in the storyline, but I will see if I can like this new version as much as the first three versions. I think there is nothing wrong with making a fun twist in the plot though. Hopefully it is a great film too! Thanks for the photos!

Lady Zhuge, do you mean Sword stain w/royal blood lead by Eva Huang & Bobby Duo? When is this series come out? I love Ren, but don't like female lead, she isn't that pretty at all to play Bai Niang Zi. Did I read right, the monk in this version fell in love w/ Bai Niang Zi?

I have no idea what you're talking about or what Sword Stained with Royal Blood has to do with anything.

When is this series come out?

Kai Chuang Sheng Shi IS NOT Sword Stained with Royal Blood. They're totally different stories/series.
