Default Calling All Skinny SPCNeters: What's Your Secret?

::AheM: Alright, if you're skinny, or not fat, or whatever...what's your secret to maintaining your current state of svelte-ness? And how did you get there? Don't say anything like genetics or "I came outta my mama beautiful" or tapeworm because that's not going help the rest of us.

Did you try a low carb diet? Did you exercise like a fiend? Did you go on the lemonade or grapefruit diet? Did you live off of exclusively sashimi for a month?

    What worked for you?

I cut down on rice intake. That's all I do. Other than that I eat normally.

I'm trying to get 6-pack abs, so i'm going on a diet and doing lot of cardio at the gym. I check the calories of every food i eat and i keep track of how many calories i intake per day. In another words, I'm obsessed with calories
I never go to fast food restaurants anymore either, its unhealthy and too expensive calorie-wise.

But I think that's what exactly happening to me. My family's prototype is such lol. I usually enjoy food that I desire without worries. It;s a blessing to put on some weight for me, in fact. More above that, people can be thrilled by my bon appetite! I have an appetite that my size does not reveal.

Having said that, I do get tummy with unhealthy habits such as sitting down or laying down after a meal, etc. When I discover a tummy, I will start my sit-ups, and joggs to get rid of it.
What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?

Normally, I'm around 165 lb. However, when I traveled to Vietnam where it was hot, I ate less than usual, and I did a lot of outdoor activities, I lost 5-10 lb in a few days. I therefore conclude that for me, I can lose weight by eating less (or eating more healthily) and being more active. Common sense, really.

I have decent metabolism. I don't know. I try to eat healthily, but I do eat quite a bit of junk and fatty foods. i don't exercise much. I think the key for me is eating small portions and I don't eat too much.

I get active whenever I can. I'm up for any activities too.

Generally, I think it's either eat less or get active. By doing both, you should be able to shrink to a size like mine, haha.

from someone who lost weight and put it back on in a hurry, I have to say that you have to keep it up w/e u do to maintain a certain weight, if you change the habit your weight also change.

I went from -20 pounds and add it all back in the matter of 3-4 months haha.

The process of loosing weight and gaining weight is quite simple.

You start off at a certain weight, once u cut weight, every gram that you go down it gets harder. Simply because for the most part, your body expel energy more so then you can ever exercise (1 mile run = 100 cal burn off, while yourself can burn from 1500-2000 cal a day just doing normal stuff). As you lose weight the body do not need as much energy to function, and at some point your "normal workout" will all be as compensation to the amount of energy that you're suppose to lose at the previous weight.

Same concept applies with gaining weight.

So in order to maintain a weight, you will have to find a routine that you can keep doing for the rest of your life. other wise you balloon back up like me.

Assuming your not working out your muscles, your body metabolism remains practically constant for this discussion. As long as you maintain your diet, you will lose or maintain your weight. You only gain it all back if your appetite comes rushing back after a week's diet and u go over ur limit.

If you do work out, your muscles will actually improve and your body metabolism will go even higher. So the best way to lose or maintain your weight is to work out, do cardio and go on a maintenable diet.

Anyone have a quirk like mine? It almost doesn't matter how much I eat for weight gain or loss...but I always gain weight or lose weight depending on how much sleep I get. The less sleep I get the more weight I lose. But I LOVE LOVE sleeping. Sleeping always trumps eating in my books!

I happen to be a picky eater n I talk too much when I eat so I always never eat enough. To balance that out, I sleep or I tell my company: "I must concentrate lest my caloric intake will suffer." And I'm a snacker!

I guess that doesn't really build good eating habits. I'm trying to follow the traditional advice: Don't take too long naps, don't eat after 6PM [8PM?], drink a lot of water, and I will probably lessen rice and noodles in my diet. I don't actually care for rice, but I LOVE instant noodles! It something I never grew out of as a child

    i don't do anything.
i have super fast metabolism and by that, i mean really really FAST lol -_- if i didn't spend so much money on food to keep full, i'd be so rich.
&& my body type builds muscles really fast, so when i see that i'm getting a tummy, i'd do cardio for a week and see results.

Yeah, i love sleeping too. Well if your daily routine is constant, then your body metabolism should be the same. The best way is to just keep track of the number of calories you eat per day. If your metabolism equals your daily calorie intake, then you maintain your weight. Also, eating less but often increases your body metabolism. So you burn more calories by eating smaller chunks of food spread out over time compared to eating one big meal.

metabolism isn't constant, once you lose weight you'll spend less energy moving around. It's not possible to be the same when you have the same body with less weight.

    1. Eat the 3 main meals of the day - breakfast before 7am, lunch around 12 noon and dinner around 7.30 pm - at consistent times for at least 5 days in a week, mostly due to work schedules. Food types are usually the same; portion sizes are also usually the same.

    2. Snack a lot on peanuts and potato chips in the late afternoon, mostly to keep me going until dinner time. Not very healthy, but I like the crunchy savoury flavours.

    3. Drink copious amounts of plain water. The weather is hot here and I need talk a lot at work, so water is a must.

    4. Non-sedentary job. I stand and walk a lot; sometimes I also run, jump and dance.

Clients say that I've lost 10 lbs in 5 years (not true, it's more like 5 lbs!).

If you do the same daily routine everyday, you burn the same amount of calories, practically speaking. This is valid within a small weight differential. That means within a 10 lbs weight difference, the amount of calories you burn everyday doesn't change much. Probably only 100 calories differential. If you're talkking about a 40 lbs differential, than the metabolism probably is noticeably different. But within 10 lbs, your body metabolism won't change much.

Also, if you work out, you build your muscles. And those muscles help boost your metabolism even further.

So say you wanna go on a diet. You eat less than your body metabolism, therefore you lose weight. You do this for a long time, just say couple of months, and you burn off let's say 20 lbs. But in the mean time, you're also working out and doing cardio. You're building your muscles. Those muscles boost up your metabolism even further, therefore you burn even more fat.

You're in your early to mid-20's right?

Don't even worry about it, I'll bet you're already skinny and you don't even know it.

If you must, however, start running. And eat dinner before 7.
