Capitalism is imperfect but it's the best and fairest system in human history. It's by far better than Marxism.

Depends on which part of the U.S. you're in. In Manhattan, New York, there's plenty of nightlife. In Peoria, Illinois...not so much.

I suppose. But as the old adage goes, "too much of anything is bad".

There are a few exceptions, but the majority of the US seems to lack a nightlife. NY, LA, SF have a decent nightlife, although still pale in comparison to the likes of Asia (Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo etc.). There's absolutely nothing to do past 9-10PM other than eating, it seems. Maybe that's why we're fat.

Well, people have choices in capitalism. If you want all the luxury goods and travel all over the world, then you have to be a workaholic. For people like me, I don't care about travel and luxury goods. All I want is relaxing life, so I don't have to work much. Keep life as simple as much as possible.

It's better to not having too much night life. It's not good for your health. It's better stay home watching wuxia/ancient serials, playing internet game, video games, ect...

On the flip side of that, the average American home is more comfortable than the average Asian home (especially in the Western states), so Americans are less inclined to walk the streets after dinner.

Unfortunately for Americans, and back to skylee's point, this causes more obesity.

skylee: I see your point about lack of nightlife. And not just nightlife, I would say overall the tangible aspects of life (excluding spiritual) is more vibrant in Asia.

Those inclined to obesity-inducing habits will fall prey to those habits wherever they live. Night markets and karaoke bars don't help people to lose weight.

Americans tend to exercise less in general, not just at night (that is my impression). So in the end they are more obese.

Americans are schizophrenic. On the one hand, you've got the obese people who devour pizza and corn dogs at Costco like teeth are going out of style...on the other hand, you've got the fitness freaks who practically live at the gym.

Most Americans seem to go to one extreme or the other.

I don't think this is the case, I think it's their diet that contain more fat and less healthy than Asian's.

Diet *is* a huge part of the problem in American obesity. Saturated fats (from meat and dairy products), excessive carbohydrates, and perhaps most of all, SUGAR, are the main culprits here. None of these things are bad in of themselves, but the American diet is way, way overloaded with these things. The average cheeseburger has probably ten times more saturated fat than a person needs per day (but they are oh so tasty and oh so available and oh so inexpensive).

It really is hard to resist sometimes, and many Americans don't even try to resist.

I'm not saying it's not part of the problem. I'm just inquiring about how knowledgeable TC is of nutrition that he can make a comparison between the health effects of one cultures diet as opposed to another.

Well, just follow the common sense. Fast food, junk food, and pop are very unhealthy non-asians tend to eat them more than asians. As for myself, I try to avoid them as much as I can. Only eat them few times a year.
