Default Details you believe are generally overlooked

What are some details that you think are generally read over and forgotten, but would be fun to share with everyone?

I'll start it off with Hong Qi mentioning that during the first Huashan meeting, him and Huang Yaoshi proved slightly inferior to the Southern Emperor, who in turn was unable to overcome Ouyang Feng.

If anyone has the original chinese text, it'd be nice if it could be posted so I could see what it says exactly.

    Nobody found this interesting?

I was pretty surprised when I reread that line

the Ancient Tomb ice bed is supposed to improve one's internal energy by a factor of TEN, i.e. one year sleeping on the ice bed accumulates 10 years worth of internal energy.

I think this detail is often overlooked since its advertized effects were less than obvious.

I wonder if the "ten years" is of a crappy inferior quality years since it isn't cultivated in the normal, orthodox way.

It seems overlooked that LHC began realizing the patterns to YBQ and LPZ's attacks.

A couple of overlooked details from HSDS:

    1. Zhang Wuji considered the Beggar Clan Execution Elder's lightness kung fu only slightly below Wei Yixiao's.

    2. People thought Zhou Zhiruo's lightness kung fu was as good as Wei Yixiao's.

    3. The Reward Elder took 5 Xuanming Divine Palms just fine, whereas Yang Xiao and Wei Yixiao had trouble taking one palm each.

    others:

    4. Bao Butong had a daughter named Bao Bujing, who was mentioned several times throughout the novel, but never made an appearance.

    5. In LOCH, the synergistic effect of 2 Quanzhen Masters combining their forces made Mei Chaofeng think a Great had arrived.

    6. SWORD GOD Zhuo Bufan's feat made ppl think Tianshan Tonglao had arrived.

Probably overlooked by Jin Yong himself, but:

If it was so dark in the cave that nothing could be seen and Linghu Chong could pass himself off as Lao Denuo, how did he see the knife moves which he described to Madame Yue, which they then analysed?

Mei Chaofeng temporarily reached the highest level of martial arts: nothingness.

Found some of these little details as being rather fascinating:

    1. He Tieshou reveals that she has a long-lasting crush on her master (Yuan Chengzhi) in Duke of Mount Deer. (Apparently the new Bi Xue Jian played this up by making her like Yuan Chengzhi all along instead of Qing Qing at first.) Wei Xiaobao even teases her about it.

    2. Priestess Mie Jue was NOT described as being an ugly old witch. In fact, the main mention of her looks beauty-wise is that she was actually attractive, with the main drawback being that her eyebrows were always slanting down angrily. This is news to me, since every TV adaptation I've seen of her has shown her as looking very old and ugly.

Actually, I still haven't yet! But that was actually what made me eventually realize she was attractive! There were debates about the attractive actress who was cast as her, and some people eventually researched and quoted the passage in the books where it mentions that she was actually quite nice looking. A bunch of people (me included) were quite shocked, since we all assumed she was ugly. That day I felt like I had an epiphany or something XD. I was lied to all my childhood!

She was supposed to be huge though, probably around 6 feet tall, which should dwarf 99% of the people of the time, male or female.

Another one (this one entirely based on my own observations):

I see a lot of people mentioning that they're mystified as to why Golden Lion would be so willing to let Wuji marry Zhiruo - especially since he actually knew that Zhiruo was so vicious and evil. But then I thought about it... and realized something. What kind of women did Golden Lion know throughout his entire life? For most of it, he was vying over the affections of GOLDEN FLOWER GRANNY for god's sake. Even until the end, it's not like he harbored great feelings of resentment and didn't want to associate with her. And then he was with Wuji's mother for all that time on that island. A woman who blinded him, and who made a conscious decision to keep her husband (who wanted to go back) on that island for all those years for entirely selfish reasons. And Golden Lion knew this. Yet he eventually liked her and thought she was a good woman. Yeah, Golden Lion's tastes are very trustable.

It's no wonder that he thinks Zhiruo is a perfectly fine woman for Wuji.

? What wasn't in the novel? That he liked her romantically, or that he didn't hate her at the end?

The former. He did not endlessly pursue her.

Oh, well I suppose I probably phrased that poorly. I do know that he eventually settled down with some woman (though we're never shown anything about her personality - bet she was a shrew). In my post, I definitely overestimated how long he pined for her (though I do vaguely remember him mentioning something about how he and several other men gave up only after she married).

He was already happily married by the time he met the Granny. He treats her like a sister and doesn't lust after her at all.

You Tanzhi knocked out a Xuan-generation monk (Xuantong) in ONE stance.

It is likely that he can reproduce this with anyone of a Xuan-generation monk calibre.

If true, I wonder if the 5 years it took OYF to regain all his kung fu to what it was before is the reason that Hong Qi was his equal by the time of LOCH.
