This is an interesting chengyu. The 'han sha' means to 'hold sand in your mouth', the 'she ying' is 'to shoot at shadows'. According to legend there was a creature that used to hold sand in its mouth and would shoot at someone's shadow, causing illness in the person. The saying means 'to secretly plot or harm someone'. This is a pretty good name for a hidden projectile weapon!
