My opinion on the Trilogy is that all the protagonists lived very secluded lives before becoming embroiled in the world, then once they did have to contact anyone they all somehow gained super martial arts so can disable their enemies without killing them.
For example, HSDS Cheung Mo Gei never met more than 20 people in his life prior to the 6 sects attacking Brightness Peak. Then at the key time he learns secret Ming kung fu to beat everyone without injuring them.
WXB does not have that luxury or choice which makes him more realistic.

IMHO, he was not scared of her as a person, he was only afraid of her as 'the Princess'. Ace, I have no doubt that Kangxi had spies everywhere, but the fact that WXB was an important figure in Tian Di Hui was (supposedly) not a well-known fact, just like Wu Liuqi. Unless Kangxi had a mole (which in this case he did), he would not know about this fact. If Kangxi knew about WXB earlier, I think his treatment to him would not be the same. At least this is my impression from reading what Jin Yong had implied. Crazee, I thought internet is ubiquitous nowadays?
Welcome back. Sky, good point on Ah Ke. But I don't think WXB had any 'love' toward any of his wives. At least not 'love' as depicted in romance novels or Hollywood movies ...
who will save Wei Xiaobao ?
