Is it a test of Zhao Liang Dong, Wang Jian Bao and Sun Si Ke's loyalty? It is well known that those three are WXB's loyal subordinates. Ordering them to lead soldiers to capture their own boss (which they truly respect) is just like telling them to let him go.
IF KX really wants WXB captured, the entire Valiant Cavalry Brigade commanders and troops will be grounded on the possibility any of them will try to help WXB escape and only other brigades will be dispatched to capture WXB.

Crazee, CFT, I agree. I checked the official translation, and since the horse race with Wu Yingxiong was omitted, this part did not have the same effect. Anh, you are welcome. Ace, your premise is that Kangxi already knew everything. For me, I choose not to read too much between the lines.
Just like everything else in this novel, I simply see it as a coincidence. I have not finished reading the Chinese version, but I don't think Jin Yong ever mentioned when exactly Kangxi found out about WXB's connection with Tian Di Hui. I am still of the opinion that he has just found out recently, hence he would not have prepared everything too far in advance. But it's just my opinion. if your premise is correct, then I can see that Kangxi deliberately wanted WXB to escape, although 1. I don't see any reason behind it, 2. I know Kangxi was a good emperor, but I don't think he was THAT good.
