Kiu Fung's death provided a shocking end to DGSD, but other than him, which other wuxia protagonists were dead by the end of the novel of which they were the main characters?

I can think of only one. He is Yi 13, the protagonist of Third Master's Sword. the novel might be named after Xie Xiao Feng, but Yi 13 appeared first in the novel, and had several chapters dedicated to him, so Yi 13 also deserves to be a main protagonist alongside XXF.
Plus I liked Yi 13 more as a character, except for what he did at the end...
Rong rong? the lead girl in Swordsman Chu. But I can't remember how she die now.
Not to be sexist about it, but the "lead girl" is still (for the most part) just a supporting character, albeit a very important one. The only exception is when the young woman is actually THE lead character (such as Ah Ching in THE YUEH MAIDEN or Lui 4 Leung in her eponymous novel). "Lead girls" die off fairly frequently (Ah Chu, Chiu Mun in the first edition of HSDS, etc.), but actual leads seldom do.
I would hesitate to call Ah Qing a lead character since the novel doesn't actually follow her - it follows Fan Li. She is definitely the pivotal character though.
With Lu Siniang, which novel were you referring to - Liang Yusheng's Jiangwu 3 Nu Ke (Gongwu Sam Nui Hap)? In that novel, the time was split between her, Feng Ying, Feng Lin and Tang Xiaolan pretty evenly, so she would only be one of the leading characters.
Speaking of Liang Yu Sheng novels, Li Sheng Nan died in the Jade Bow Connection. Given the amount of time spent on her, I would argue that she is a protagonist as opposed to the lead girl.
The actual Chinese title of the book isn't even the Yueh Maiden, even though it's the official name. The direct translation of the book would be the Sword of the Yueh Maiden, moving Ah Qing even further into Fan Li's shadow.
Didn't almost everyone die off in Bai Ma Xiu Xi Feng or something? I don't know the story but some people were saying it was depressing or something.
I think it's rare for the main hero to die. It's quite common for all his friends to die, the whole planet might explode or something, but the hero always finds some way to exist in torturous solitude at the end... sometimes I feel that dying is probably a mercy compared to some of the endings heroes get.

If I'm not mistaken, Gao Li was the main character of Kong Queling, or at least the plot really revolved around his predicament. It is implied that he is killed at the end.
