    Default Westerns

Anybody here like old Western films (or even newer ones)?

I like Clint Eastwood's 1960s Spaghetti Westerns. If you like wuxia, particularly Gu Long's brand of it, these movies have a similar vibe. The ending of THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY, for example, involved a climatic gunfight among the three title characters. The tense buildup lasted about six minutes before the actual shooting started, and it was pretty much over with just one shot fired.

That easily could have been a scene out of SENTIMENTAL SWORDSMAN, RUTHLESS SWORD, except with guns instead of daggers/swords.

Two excellent Western novels are Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry, and Appaloosa, by Robert B. Parker.
If you like graphic novels, try The Road to Perdition, which is about organized crime, although not the Italian mafia bunch.
Outside of The Godfather, some of the best books about the Mafia are non-fiction. Honor Thy Father, by Gay Talese; Underboss, by Peter Maas; The Valachi Papers, also by Maas; Donnie Brasco, by Joe Pistone; Wise Guy and Casino, both by Nicholas Pileggi.

I like spaghetti westerns, I'm pretty picky when it comes to American ones - and I have a very strong dislike for anything that features John Wayne.
