Tsui Yin Manor (the place)

When I first watched DGSD '81, I was, for some reason, under the impression that Tsui Yin Manor was Dr. Sit's home. Only later did I realize that it was the home of the Yau family.

Tsui Yin Manor was quite a large estate, capable of hosting a Heroes Conference attended by hundreds of wulin warriors. It takes quite a bigwig to have a property like that in wulin. The Yau Brothers' martial arts weren't that great (or maybe Kiu Fung just made them look bad, the way he does to almost everybody who fights him). Were the Yau Brothers really such wulin bigwigs that they could lord over a property such as Tsui Yin Manor?

Ancient China doesn't lack land space! I guess even moderately well-off pugilists could easily own an estate big enough to fit 300 people.

In any case, wealth and martial prowess is seldom a linear relationship in wuxia. They could have been rich due to their dad or some other business.

I don't think the You brothers were total scrubs. They would probably be able to hold their own against anyone except the more famous names (e.g. The Tan couple or 4th Evil).

It was said the You family was wealthy, but not exceptional in any regard. If not for Dr. Xue's name, the manor would not have been able to attract 1/3 of the attendees.

That's one of the reasons that I was initially under the impression that Tsui Yin Manor was Dr. Sit's place. He seemed to command more respect and authority there than the Yau Brothers did.

Additionally, Dr. Sit did not take Ah Chu to another location to heal her. He did it at Tsui Yin Manor. Since he had all the materials he needed to do that available to him at the manor, I further assumed that the place was his.

Wonder why scrubs like them take martial arts so seriously. It didn't seem very hard to steal their shields, especially when they throw them at you =/
