I think people tend to exaggerate the cultural animosity between China and Japan. Yes, we all know about World War II, but very few people who were actually there are still alive now. Just how much active animosity is there really between younger generations of Chinese and Japanese whose experience of World War II is limited to books, films, and maybe anecdotes from their elders?

Still exists. If you go to China and talk to _some_ of the young people there, you can still hear the resentment against Japan. Doesn't stop them buying Japanese goods though!

As for the Japanese, they generally still look down on the Chinese (though they are still very polite on the outside).
