Default Questions about Mo Ngai Tze's go game.

Some questions about Mo Ngai Tze's go game:

    1. Was it actually possible to solve the game using conventional go tactics, or was Hui Juk's way (blind luck) really the only way to solve it? Deun Yu and Deun Yin Hing were among the finest go gamers in the world at the time, and neither one had an answer for it. If the two Deuns couldn't handle the game through conventional tactics, then maybe nobody could.

    2. Why did Dr. Sit die from attempting to solve the game? People either win or lose games, but generally don't die just from playing them.

I believe it's just a way to show how impossible that game was (so hard you could just die from trying to solve it), which will serve to amplify the amazement when Xuzhu does managed to solve it... in that kind of manner too.

In Go, you have life and death situations. Where you can force a win of a section of play in a certain number of moves. Sometimes it can't be won.

I suppose in this situation, they were playing from the perspective of being beaten in a certain number of moves.

That was made up by the adaption. In the novel he didn't play the game. As for an explanation of why he could have died, consider it due to coming to contact with the dangerous nature of the game. In the novel, MRF and DYQ almost committed suicide due to fire deviation from playing the game.

Incidentally, what did finally happen to Dr. Sit in the novel?

He was last seen at the big Shaolin gathering. When Xuzhu's parents died, he assessed their conditions and told Xuzhu they were beyond savable.
