Qiong-Yao had to give Yong Qi a concubine in order to maintain historical accuracy! Aisin-Gioro Yongqi (born 23MAR1741, died 16APRIL 1766), had one wife and TWO concubines! He had a total of six sons, but 5 died in infancy. Yongqi died at the tender age of 25, leaving behind a widow and one son. Can't blame Qiong-Yao now, can we?!

I think there are a lot of creative ways around this if she really wanted to.

For example, after the emperor finds out that YQ refuses to marry anyone else and runs off to be with XYZ, to preserve the royal family's image, they made up his wives and kids and the fact that he died young. Instead he's really living as a normal person with XYZ.

That would be one way to keep in line with history but yet still create a story that the fans would enjoy.

It is very hard for foreigners especially Caucasians to have a career in the entertainment industry in China, no doubt from prejudice and discrimination and I very sad to read that this is what it is, prejudice. After reading your comment, I hope I will not read anywhere else about any complaints that there are too little Asians in the Western entertainment industry because obviously there are more Asian actors in Western movies than Caucasians or other non-Asians foreigners in China entertainment industry. It is sad that such bias comment coming out of your mouth assuming you are at least foreign raised if not foreign born.

I think you have to look at the big picture. If you go to any theater in Asia, at least half the movies shown are Hollywood movies which only star non-Asian actors.

So if Asians were really prejudice and discriminatory, then why would they watch these foreign movies and why would they be so popular?

Whereas in the US, there are virtually no Asian movies being shown in big chain theaters. This is the major difference.

If over 50% of the movies in the US were all from Asia, then I don't think any Asian Americans would complain about a lack of representation. So when you look at the big picture, there are way more Caucasian and non-Asian actors in the Asian entertainment industry than Asians in Western movies.
