Default Which scenario would anger you more?

Let's say in your country, the government gives you some benefits (such as medical coverage, a little bit of money, etc) when you're 65 years old.

Now, imagine you're 64, you're that close to getting the benefits, and the government suddenly changed the policy to:

    1. you cannot get the benefits until you're 70. (which means you have to wait 5 more years)

    2. you only have to be 60 to get the benefit. (which means you waited 5 more years than others after you)

Which of the 2 scenarios, if any, would upset you more?

While both scenarios suck, at least with scenario 2, your wait is over.

I'll be more angered with scenario 1.

In scenario 2, I can get the benefits 1 year earlier.

The first 1 would anger me. But I'm not sure if I'd be terribly angry, just mildly maybe. For the second one, it probably wouldn't even occur to me to be angry haha. I would just be like, "oh, that's great!"

Will definitely be more angered by the first option. As the others said, at least the wait is over.

At least the 64 years old is still better than the 65 years old. The 64 year old benefits by waiting 1 year less. Imagine the anger of the 65 year old.

    Appalled by both.

I've been through a pain with an effect similar to scenario 2 (time wastage), so it really has a toll on me.

I'd be more upset over the first scenario because I might not live long enough to receive those benefits. 5 years is a long wait for a 65 yo woman.

I don't see any reason to be upset over the second scenario, to be honest. I mean, sure, you've waited 5 more years than those after you, but on the brighter side, you've also waited 1 year less than those before you. It just seems a little petty to think that just because I suffered a long wait, everyone else should have to suffer it as well (at least in this particular circumstance).

Option 1. It's pointless to dwell on the past, so why torture yourself?

While I rest on being simply a petty citizen, that displeasure in me will work as a motivation to get even with them at later stages, grab every opportunity to fight for more than what I should get.

As the word goes saying, you won't know til you trully fight for it.

No point being upset at number 2. What ifs don't mean anything.

Forgot to clarify, the new policy doesn't start till next year, so you won't have the 1 more year of benefit

the new rules wouldn't apply to the 64 year olds but the younger generation. In a sense the government is just a ponzi scheme using current taxpayers money to pay off the pensions expenses.

The system is not going to hold as people are feed up with the government just think about the younger generation now when they reach retirement age they government may have changed to rules again.

Tax paid to the system should be treated as a loan paid back in full when you reach retirement age plus interest ofcourse.

That actually reminds me of one of the retirement local policy in SG. It was 55, then 60 and now 60+++++.

Tell me, my fellow locals, we're in the first scenario. How do you feel? Personally, I feel that, given such lifestyle, can we live til that age?

Well, humans are living longer and longer, so perhaps it's fair to delay the benefits age.

If you die before then, just bad luck

The youth in France should just leave France after graduation.

In Malaysia, it's actually only CUEPACS (the union) who keep proposing the increasement of retirement age, from 55 to 56 to 58 to 60, whilst in reality, very few wanted to work till 56.

Wow people from Malaysia want to get off early!
In reality, scenario 2 will never happen. For people who are in their 30s or younger, I think they will have to work until at least 70 years old unless they have enough money save up.
