Iirc, Yang was actually stronger than the Shades individually but was unnerved and thrown off by their weird antics.

MJFL has so many awesome characters. It's strange that being the Wulin chancellor is such a big deal to so many people, considering there seems to be dozens of people capable of wiping out any sect by themselves instantly as the masters of each sect are like 5th-6th tier fighters at best. We literally see like all of wulin try to take down Dongguo and co, and pretty much not succeeding.
