I want that Totoro xD kawaiiiii

I think It's ok to give opinion about this drama, and may be Ruby Lin or her manager could read this thread (they should spy any thread that related to their own production right? To see what netizens talk about this drama). And of course they will take the praise or the compliment as advice for better Lin Company next production.

It is the first time Ruby publish her own series, so nothing is perfect.

Can we say that we are now just look at the cover because we havent see this drama yet. Like a book we can't always just from the cover but just it by the story.

So we should just it by how their act and of course the most important one is this series plot.

When I read complaints regarding how unbelievable it was for multiple men to fall for one women, I tried to think of how often the reverse was true, and it really wasn't hard at all. Just the heroes from Jin Yong's stories made for sufficient examples: Yang Guo had 7 women enamored with him at some point (8 if you include Guo Fu); Zhang Wuji had...I think 4? Duan Yu had...at least 3? Wei Xiaobao had 7. It's very common but we no longer think it's weird at all. On the other hand, if it's multiple men falling for one woman, we think it's too much of a stretch. To be honest, I also find myself more comfortable with the former than the latter, but it really is rather interesting to see how double standards have become deep-rooted within our ideology.
Actually, it goes both ways for me. I was really annoyed by ROCH mainly because every girl in the series was falling for YG and he was supposed to be this "perfect hero" guy but that just made him more annoying. I was also annoyed by XLN for the same reason--it has nothing to do with the gender of the character (although I feel that more often than not it's a female character that gets all the love). In general, I just find it difficult to pull off having one character becoming the focal love interest of all the other characters. It can work, but only if the character is extremely likeable AND if the actor is extremely charismatic/talented at pulling the viewer into the story.

Overall I prefer a more well-balanced plot which tells the story of multiple characters. Of course there always has to be a main character and I actually do really enjoy "love triangles" when done well, but once you get into love pentagons etc. it's a bit too much.

Sorry if some people feel offended by the Ruby comments. I guess I'm just starting to get annoyed by all these series with similar "all these guys fall in love with the main girl" plots lately: QSHF, BBJX, Gong, etc. They either have good actresses but unappealing actors (Gong), awesome actors but unappealing actresses (QSHF), or mediocre actors and actresses (BBJX). I'm getting antsy because it's been awhile since I've watched a really good series and I keep waiting for a good one to come out, but it just seems like more of the same. I AM more interested in this one though (over Gong or BBJX), which is why I'm actually keeping up with this thread and posting about it. (Also, people have been calling YK worse things--along the lines of old and ugly--and I'm not offended by it even though I really like YK, because yeah, he doesn't look that great in some of his scenes. )

Well, now that I've bashed all 3 of the most popular series here I will retreat back to lurkerdom and just enjoy the nice pictures being posted...

Correct me if I'm wrong, as I never read the novel, but the baby should be:

    click to show/hide spoilers
Wallace's character's. Unless she was pregnant twice....

Ah, I can see how YG could come off as annoying because of that. I think you're right regarding the actor's ability as well as how good the script is in determining whether or not it will work. For ROCH, I haven't directly read the novel, but I enjoyed Andy Lau's portrayal of YG. In that version, I found it believable that all those women could fall for him, not so much because he was a "perfect hero," but more because he was the charming rebel. On the other hand, the Huang Xiao Ming version made me feel a bit differently. Even though I think HXM's YG is much better looking than Andy Lau's, I'm not sure if it's the script or HXM's acting, but the way the female characters fawned over him suddenly became annoying. Perhaps it's because I found HXM's YG to be more arrogant than Andy Lau's. As for XLN, men lusted after her purely because of her beauty...and that's not my thing at all so I'm glad that isn't the focus of the story.

Ahaha, I actually loathe love triangles and possibly prefer love pentagons. The reason is that love triangles tend to be much more serious; all three involved tend to get much more screentime so the viewer becomes attached to all three, and, in the end, no matter what the result is, all I feel is angst. With love pentagons, the relationships are usually either not the primary focus of the story (e.g. in DOMD, even though WXB has 7 wives, the romantic development really isn't the point of the story), or the angst is dispersed because there's a "main couple" with a number of side characters that you just feel vaguely sorry for (which is the case in ROCH for me).

Yeah, I have to say, I'm a bit (hmmm, what's the right word....) irked? (well, not quite) by the sudden wave of dramas revolving around one female and many men. I'm not too versed in the storylines for the others, but don't a number of them also have similar premises (i.e. time travel)? It seems reactionary to the previous trend in dramas revolving around an array of women in palaces, but honestly, they don't ALL have to come out around the same time. With QSHF, I don't think we'll have a big problem with love pentagons actually. Everyone seems to have the idea that Fu Ya will have romances with 6 men or something, when really, I think it's more of a slightly complex love triangle between Fu Ya (Ruby), Lian Cheng (Wallace) and Qi You (Yan Kuan). The relationships with the other men in her life are more vague and they'll have varying degrees of affection for her (e.g., platonic, admiration, admiration+a crush, brother/sister etc.) and her for them. Also, I don't think Fu Ya is supposed to be like XLN, where men lust after her merely because of her beauty and naivete. I believe Fu Ya's supposed to be a deeper character (well I sure hope so since she's the main character) who gains the affection of others from her other qualities. So, it really depends on the script and Ruby's acting whether or not these relationships will be believable or not.

As for your comments towards Ruby, I don't think fans were responding to you directly, Mango_cake. Rather, fans were responding to all the negativity that had been building up throughout the thread. It does get tiring after awhile when the same negative remarks regarding an actress keep getting made after every single picture posted. When constructively done, or when done once or twice, fans can let it go. But when it happens over and over again, I don't think fans can help but feel as if they're purposely being provoked. I bet things are the same with Yan Kuan and his fans. I've read some of the negative comments from other forums and it's really not a big deal when people are just giving their 2 cents the first time. However, when people refuse to move on and keep fixating on that same issue without anything new to add to the discussion, it starts to get really uncomfortable even for me, and I don't even know of Yan Kuan all that well.

Regarding the way Ruby looks (I haven't really given my 2 cents yet, so I'm allowed ), she definitely looks a lot older than how she normally looks in a lot of those pictures. I think that's due to a number of reasons: (1) hair/makeup/clothing (a BIG reason, and it sucks, though I like some of the clothes); (2) I think they filmed the later scenes first so her character's supposed to be a bit older and more matured; (3) Ruby's face tends to look swollen in pictures sometimes. The hair/makeup for all the palace women really sucks though, big-time. I can only hope that they'll all look better onscreen.

Sometimes I also wonder what it would be like if one of the currently popular and younger mainland actresses was casted. Even though it would work better for the scenes when Fu Ya was younger, I don't know how things would go for when Fu Ya gets older and things get more serious. Again, I'm not entirely sure about the story behind the other similar dramas out there right now, but I get the feeling that QSHF has more mature/serious themes embedded within it and is probably bloodier. It may work, but I don't know. I think ultimately, we won't know anything until it actually comes out and watch it for ourselves

Phew! That was long. I'm coming back with a wordy vengeance because I've been away from SPCNET forums for so long ahaha....

    i'm an ordinary ruby's fans..
reading all the stuffs here, make me kinda sad..
this thread is about QSHF, but people forgotten to the real matter n keep talking bout (sorry) "stupid" things.. bout "should or shouldn't" Ruby as Fu Ya, or "old n not old looks"..
well, the cast already fixed, why we still keep talking bout the things which we cant change?
why cant we move on n keep supporting this series..

the matter is, this QSHF series is filming now.. n it REALLY need all of the fans (not only Ruby's, but also Wallace, Yan Kuan, all the supporting actors' fans) to support it.. just that simple..
thats all what fans can do, keep supporting to their idols, right?
we barely watch the series but there already so many inappropriate comments come out, unfairly judging based on the cover..

but well, what can I, a simple ruby's fans, do to avoid all the bad comments.. everyone can say whats in their minds, all i can do just read it, laugh, and forget it..
coz i know the more u hate in things, the more u will concern bout it.. well, i'll just make them as a new fans of QSHF..
all i want to do is remind all of us that this is Qing Shi Huang Fei's thread.. so, just stick on the series..

just want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH to myedi for all the updates.. nice pictures.. love them all..

and def agree with Zerogame n tinhnoey87.. nice words..

@amatea the novel of QSHF was written by an 18 years old girl n she posted in internet where Ruby found it.. so, after Ruby bough it (the license) she asking for the changes for make it more "real" or "mature" or kinda something like that..
sorry, i dunno how to tell in correct words in english, but well, she need to change it from the original novel.. n we wont know how the changes are until it airing in the television..
haha.. really curious bout this series..

as i know, this series have a high cost.. Ruby's dresses (if u notices the dresses for make "doctor Fu Ya", "pretty boy Fu Ya", "the blue one like Wallace's outfit", etc) cost more than 100.000 RMB..
not counting to the others outfits n actors fees..
so, there are a lot of investors here (not only Ruby here), the one we already know is Director Gao.. who also helping with the war scenes too in QSHF..

PS : i really really cant wait to watch this series.. all the casts, the pictures looks so promising.. gosh.. i really wish there is a time machine now, so i can go to future n watch it..

It baffles me how people keep talking about how it should have been a younger actress playing Fu Ya. Good god, she invest her time and money in it, would it make sense for her to promote someone else! Same thing with Fan bing Bing. They opened up their own production company so they can play the role they want. I think she looks compatible with both actors. Her love story mainly revolves around Yuan Kuan and Wallace. There may be alot of other young guys but they are only side storylines. Some that helped her along the way and others that tried to kill her.

I quess most of you guys did not read the summary for series. I know Ruby is not the most beautiful actress out there but give her a break please. The series did not go the basis of her beauty that made all these men love her.

Yuan Kuan: He came to know her because he rescued her when her empire fall. He then took her back to country and made her his maid. Through the time they spent together, that is how they came to love each other so much.

wallace: They had an arranged marriage. When she left Yuan Kuan for the first time, she then when back to wallace and stayed there as a quest. Seeing her intellect and sweet personality, he then also fell in love her.

Tony: Through Wallace, he had heard stories about Fu Ya. From there he had the admiration for her. Though you can say that he's the evil one because her days with him were the most tortured days of her life.

From the storyline, i feel that it's fitting how the men fell her. Considering the time she spent with them. She kept fleeing from place to place. I wonder how they will keep the face change storyline though. I feel like this series is very similar with "scheming beauty". I want to shy away from all these wars and empire ruling stories. God, can we get some comedy in wuxia series these days!!

I thought Gao Xi Xi (director of Three Kingdoms and New Shanghai Bund which starred Huang Xiaoming) is just an investor, but he's listed as director of Qing Shi Huang Fei alongside Pan Wen Jie! OK, just for him, I am looking forward very much to this series!

There is a double standard but it's also that the stories where the male characters have multiple admirers, the love octagon is usually executed better. The male characters are almost always much better developed so that they are more likeable to the audience. They're also less wishy washy in general. (I hate wishy washy love circles no matter if it's a male or female lead.)

Also, in a lot of series where multiple male characters fall in love with the lead female, it is always overdone to the point where I find myself throwing up in my mouth. All the guys let her go from one to the other without any sense of dignity for themselves. This is unrealistic and that's why it is "Mary Sueish". The men are almost always portrayed as doormats for the woman to go to and fro and DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. They'll just be glad that they have her back again when she feels like coming back and allow her to go again whenever she gets bored of him.
