I'll be going to china in September =)
I went on an Ancient Cities tour 5 years ago. It is a pity that that people graffiti and urinate on the Great Wall.

That's awful especially since it has so much history and meaning.

Im not sure what the tour im going with is called but it takes you to different cities in china. Heard it will be very hot in September.

Not hot but stuffy. But it can get to high 30's if you near Xi'An or Luo Yang. If you go up north up to Inner Mongolia, it can still be chilly. So pack a jacket or disposable heat packs if you head up there.

I went in April back then: traveled to Shanghai, Luo Yang, Xi'An, Ping Yao, Da Tong and then Beijing (as well other minor stops in Beijing). And I did catch a glimpse of the Yu Lin dog meat festival. Not cool with me. Don't buy any silk blankets! It is a rip off!

Yes, quite a fair bit of graffiti, mainly names of people.

The general advice with regard to Beijing is not to go in October in view of the sandstorms. I believe the weather in September is not as hot as June which I went.

If there is no other way, then get some face masks, sunglasses and caps. September is not hot but it can be sticky and stuffy.

For all girls who plan to visit public toilets in china,

    (1) Don't wear leggings or stockings. Wear something that you can pull down and pull up ASAP without it touching the floor.
    (2) Have a small bottle of perfume or deodorant or sweet-smelling lip balm ready before you step inside. Spray or smear some on the inside of your mask if you need to.
    (3) Get someone else to hold your handbag or phone.
    (4) Get in and out ASAP. Pls wash hands. Bring antiseptic wipes if you want.

I am a guy. I use the toilets at Summer Place and Great Wall of China [MUTIANYU]. They are ok.
But I did not use any toilets along the street. So they can be very different from the tourist places.

Definitely. Wear sunnies as well. Stay in the car or indoors if you can. I got caught up in a sandstorm on the highway when going to Ju Yong Pass outside Beijing. Horrible experience. Be nice to your driver.

Yes. Go early in the day before the rush of tourists arrive if you can. People can't aim and don't care if they miss. Not to mention someone people pushing and shoving through queues.

Yes, but its mission today is different from when it was first created.
