That said, compassion does have its place when it comes to managing people. But when people take compassion for granted and expect it to be given in every situation regardless of magnitude and severity, that's when things get out of control.
My boss is nice; so she gets taken for granted. I am not as nice as the boss, as I have often told staff before, so they had better not expect me to handle them as the boss does. Come to think of it, even my boss has become less nice to crappy staff!
