TongHua's weibo about the Vietnam version of the book:
She was looking at the picture above. Her husband was behind her and saw the picture also. He asked what it was and why it was wrapped. She said that it was wrapped so it could be Valentines day gift. Her husband then said wasn't it tragedy so why anyone would want that to be gift on V-day? (Emote - "Rolling Eyes")

It was depressing her husband would say that!!

Ditto! Is it crazy that I want to learn to read Chinese just so I can follow them all on weibo?!!

Well, I'm always of the opinion that the best way to learn a language is to watch its movies and TV series . My mom was totally Mandarin-illiterate (she only speaks Canto) but picked up Mandarin watching Mandarin-dubbed series when Singapore banned dialects on TV

Agreed. All the ABC's I know who can fluently speak/read Chinese all learned from watching dramas/movies. Those that tried to learn it from Chinese school (mainly cuz their parents forced them to go) forgot it within a year or two after they stopped. How many characters do I need to know to be considered literate in Chinese?

I also speak cantonese first and was mandarin-illiterate 10 some years ago. I kept pestering my parents to translate what they were saying throughout the dramas, but I don't know about when I just started understanding what they were saying. The pace of learning a language by watching dramas is faster and more enjoyable than classes. After-awhile following with the subs you also pick up more Chinese characters too. Since I'm ABC so English is my most fluent language, cantonese friends usually are surprised how good my Mandarin is. When you get something like this out of watching dramas it makes it seem so educational. I should have started watching Korean dramas with subs instead of Mandarin dubbing though because by now I might be better off in Korean too, but I think that still takes longer. lol When you already know one Chinese dialect, even though it's polarly different, it's still a pace faster.

The whole Chinese public figures using weibo is so amusing. I don't see that form of interaction between actor/actresses, writers, and etc that much in other cultures. Usually they use the twitter or me2day things as forms to interact with fans and some accounts look so commercialized so you won't see such bonding between actors.

    Commentaries from linggluu:

let’s look at the many things wrong in this picture from a modern point of view:

    -he’s married to her sister
-they’re rolling around on fake grass/flowers
    -in the middle of winter
-the person she’s rolling around with, is not 4. :P

    From ruanchunxian:

The funny thing is, when this episode aired for the first time, the cast apparently was watching it live and they provided running commentary on weibo:

Nicky (in very defeated tone): They’re rolling around now.

Geng Xin (to Nicky): Ge, it pains me to watch this, are you in pain too? T_T

Yuan Hong: So Ruo Xi’s brother in law finally shows his true colors.

Some person running the official BBJX weibo: Hey Si Ye, is the vinegar shop open today? :P

    I’m probably paraphrasing.

    LOLOLOL! The commentaries are HILARIOUS!

Urm, I don't actually count the number of characters I know. But according to some language experts, I think 2,000 characters is considered mastery level?

I don't think the number of characters matters as much as how you use them.

I didn't know Hu Ge sang the themesong for BBJX at first either, but I really loved the song so searched up the singer. I liked that song the best out of all his other sang songs, kinda wished he would have more solo parts. I like the girl singer in the duet too, but really like HG's singing particularly in that song.

I think the solo version is better than the original duet.
