From what I've read, it's probably because WYP was deep in "I wanna avenge my parents" mode that she didn't pay attention to liking Yang Guo, and after they parted, they didn't see each other again for ages, IIRC, so there was much growing in the first place.

Yeah, she was already married to Yelu Qi. I just prefer to ignore that "revelation", GF is flawed enough as it is, no need to add "being a member of YG fanclub" to her list of offenses.

Jin Yong's attempt to unconvincingly Gary Stu-ize Yang Guo's character even more than it already is. When he finished writing the novel, he just remembered, "Oh, I forgot to add Wanyan Ping to Yang Guo Fan Club so I better write this revelation bit, doesn't matter whether it looks like a tagged-on afterthought." Perhaps he looked back at Wanyan Ping's scenes and tried feebly to add in Yang Guo-oriented romantic postulations, but just couldn't fit them in anywhere.
