    Default Work / Professional etiquette

If you have a question about what you can and cannot do at work, ask here.

I'll start with a few questions:

    1. Is it acceptable to wear a turtleneck to the office?

    2. Is it rude to cut your fingernails at work?

Well, I think it depends on the nature of your working office. I wear turtleneck with a blazer at work sometimes, which is fine.

    2. Is it rude to cut your fingernails at work?
It is inappropriate. But I've seen my boss doing that back in that lawfirm, and I did that too during my freetime.
What can I say? I'm still standing! No weapon against me shall prosper! I am more than a conqueror!!!

I don't care to sit by the window on an airplane. If I can't control it, why look?

I personally don't think a turtleneck is inappropriate for an office setting. But on the other hand, I have never seen a guy in a turtleneck except on casual Fridays.

And no nail cutting/personal hygiene unless you're in the restroom.

    1. Is it rude/ inconsiderate to wear perfume in the office.
    2. The rule to leave open-toe shoes out of the office.
    3. Can guys wear shorts into the office.

    1. Is it rude/ inconsiderate to wear perfume in the office. so long as it is not too strong, it should be fine

Turtlenecks are yes, yes to open-toed shoes (unless your workplace makes it hazardous), yes to shorts, yes to nice perfumes.

No to nail clipping, just because that's disgusting and should be done in private.

I'm so glad that I "work" in academia. I'm pretty sure we were told that the only no-no's are 1. Don't fake your data, and 2. Don't sleep with your students (though this actually is allowed as long as both are adults and consenting and the professor isn't currently teaching that student).
    Because I'm somewhere in between,
    My love and my agony.

    1) i wore turtlenecks to office often enough ~ don't see whats wrong with it.
    2) fingernail cutting is a little unsightly, unless if your nail chipped and you don't have much of a choice but to trim that nail. and it's worse when one does it in toilet cubicle. they hog on the cubicle and you hear this nail clipping sound. -.- can't they do it at home??
    3) perfume, unless its strong and start to stink, otherwise its not an issue with me
    4) yea, dont show your toes.
    5) guys wearing shorts....good grief, that's so unsightly....=(
    6) sleeping with students..hmmm well, the same policy should go to the office...don't sleep with your colleagues, boss, surbodinates...(unles the person happened to be your legal-wedded spouse) but then people do it all the time.
    o wilku mowa...♪

The only thing I need to know is that I don't know anything.
