I think Maggies short hair and makeup are appropriate for her age/status in the show. She is senior forensics/autopsy specialist which puts her at a min age of 38 - 40. I am glad they did not make a starlett in their mid-late 20's take the character. Short easy to style hair more professional and gives off sense of no fuss/low maintenance.

I wonder if Charmaine Sheh had gotten the role would they have used the same interpretation. Would be fun to see her in an older role, but somehow I think they would have made her young - definitely nowhere near 38-40.

I got the sense that Charmaine was playing late 30's in When Heaven Burns. Even if she was 18 in 1993 that makes Hazel ~ 36 yrs old in the current period.

There would be high level of suspension of disbelief for senior autopsy doctor with PhD to be in 20's - I would laugh until my teeth hurt.
