I had no idea this was in the Ming... Somehow, I saw the trailer and assumed typical Tang drama dress (although that doesn't equal real Tang dress)
I was really disappointed with how bad the fabric used for Allure Snow are. Yu Zheng has done an amazing job of costumes with his last couple of dramas, but for some reason, both of his current dramas have flashy fabrics that are normal in ancient dramas.
For a better indication of Ming - wear, I would suggest Strange Hero Yi Zhi Mei. Tangren doesn't usually have authentic costumes, but Yi Zhi Mei had some really nice costumes, especially for the males.
I'm also no expert, but the Tang is definitely the most diverse in terms of clothing. A lot of styles acceptable in the Tang are way too revealing for later dynasties. By the Ming, there were much stricter dress codes, and palace beauties had tight regulations on who could wear what. The jacket + skirt combination is the most common in the Ming, but other styles exist.
Here's an authentic Ming artifact dress. You can see that the colors are actually quite vibrant, and the style is very intricate.
